What Are Some Occupations You Would Like A Main Character to Have?

What are some occupations/jobs you would like to see a main character have? Specifically ones that are not often seen or used.

Some that I could think of are a book collector, radio personality, receptionist, veterinarian, accountant, construction worker, train conductor, and acupuncturist.

I don't know that this is uncommon in fiction, but I enjoy seeing characters in jobs involving social work, caretaking, or customer service- anything associated with a "heart of service" or a love of people. I've seen several nurses and teachers in fiction, but I'd even like seeing more waitresses and janitors. Good, hard-working people in any kind of difficult, thankless service job make very sympathetic protagonists to me.

I work in a restaurant and meet a lot of fascinating people in the business who give me endless inspiration and fuel for thought as a writer. Sometimes an average stranger- however opposite of glamorous their life might be- has the most interesting and unexpected stories to tell.

Maybe writing editor or data entry? Furniture designer?

I think of the occupations you've listed, I haven't seen construction worker or acupuncturist before.

I love odd jobs that people don't think about but are careers. That's why my main male character does color correction on movies and commercials.

Someone who does media archiving. There is so much about media in the last 100 years that most current generations just are obvious to. I would love a deep dive. I used to have a job working with old film reels and tapes of all kinds, and I think it’s sort of interesting.

I would also like to see other types of therapists, like for physical therapy, language therapy, occupational therapy, etc.

I love to see characters who are astronomers, marine biologists, storm chasers, etc. Basically, I'm a nerd.

Safecrackers or lockpicks. Anything that involves solving puzzles

One of my characters is a demon and a soldier, maybe he could work as a stunt double in movies, or as a bodyguard.

Maybe more along the lines of self-employment, maybe a lone scientist who sets out on their own adventures and discovers new species...or alternative medicine like a herbalist or a chiropractor. Just those not really tied to any corporate entities, I find those really interesting, but that's just my opinion.

probably not the answer you guys were expecting but i worked at a really shady non for-profit donation organization (like, yelling at strangers to donate from the sidewalk and sometimes hassling people coming in and out of buildings) for a time so i think a story about someone working at one of those would be fun LOL . . . the people who worked there were. so strange

or like one of those Mary-Kay esque pyramid schemes . . . so many options
