What are some pet peeves you have with your medium of choice?

messy refils, some pens don't last, weird ink color inconsistancies ,the paper tearing ,low toner for my printer and so on

I like drawing with pen (not surprisingly.) but not like, the pens I’m supposed to. I get the cheap ones that are supposed to be used for writing.

I use them for writing, but mainly for drawing. I just find I kill through them really easily. Even good quality writing pens I’ve gotten lasted me about 2 weeks.

The thing that bugs me about digital art is that I have to sit at my desk to do it. With sketchbooks I can draw anywhere, take it to the park/beach. I can even draw in bed or on the floor. I really hate sitting at a desk for long hours and I wish I could find a way to draw digitally while lying down.

Depending on what computer and what tablet you’re using, it’s pretty possible to draw on the bed. I used to use a laptop for drawing for about 2 months and it was very nice for bed work. It also depends on the amount of cords you need. One outlet can work nicely if you’re using a laptop and the tablet. If you have anything else or something obstructing the way of the nearest outlet, then I could see some difficulties.

I hand draw my comics on paper and ink them with Microns, then scan it into Photoshop.
My biggest pet peeve with my process is in Photoshop, where one single empty pixel on each line is what WILL cause the paint bucket to fill EVERYTHING. I then have to undo and hunt down the wayward pixel.

At this point, I feel like Photoshop would have a setting where one could designate a "pixel gap," that would permit Photoshop to understand that I am trying to fill in one space, not the whole panel.

With CSP I have to remember that everyone isn't going to see each detail on a 3000 x 3000 canvas. That's more a me thing though and why I've been working on being looser with my brushstrokes. With ink art, I have to be careful with my brush so ink doesn't randomly go everywhere. Lightly, lightly... very lightly

I needlefelt models with wool and then take photos of them to make my comics and one of the main differences from actually drawing art is the fact that it's alot harder for me to change the expressions of my characters faces! Like my main character just reacts with the emotion to absolutely everything! Want to show that the character is happy? Scared? Sad? Nope! Only ! In a way though, it's kinda cute!

I second this because well I do this for my comic too. It also requires more work for me to digitally colour than if I were to do digital lineart

I am not happy about my cheap local alchoholic markers for my occational color sketches. The inks started to spread out the edges and desaturated after a few months and it's horrible. Maybe Copic markers don't have the issues. (won't buy it too expensive)

Now I tested non-alcoholic Japanese markers and started to like it. They don't blend much but it'll fulfill my usages.

Whenever my mouse suddenly decides to be lazy. It is so hard to draw with a mouse, let alone an unresponsive mouse!

Most of my struggles with digital art are self inflicted tbh.

• Drawing on the wrong layer.
• I bump my tablet and rotate it a little too much, there goes all my pen control.
• Drawing on the wrong damn layer.
• I love Krita but man, the text tool needs some work.
• Drawing on the wrong fucking layer.
• Losing my pen control when I don't draw for a while. What is a smooth line. What are lines. Fuck lineart.
• The only real pet peeve I have with Krita is that ctr z will often undo several quick brush strokes at once which can be a little annoying.
• DRAWING. ON THE. WRONG. LAYER.

The first digital art class I took as a teenager, they had us using ball mice. The school then invested in drawing tablets and laser mice for the art classes. But the tech classes were still using the ball mice despite having Photoshop and Flash lesson plans. Evil, awful, hell! Ball mice, I do not miss them.
