What are some things to avoid when making a comic on demons and spooky stuff of the sort

If I know anything from watching Supernatural, is that you shouldn't use authentic demonic symbols XD

But aside from that, go crazy o3o really though, you can do whatever ou want.
(Though I would recommend researching demons and other spooky creatures if you plan to really get into it. Not mandatory, but should be fun)

My comic is based around the characters fighting demons and the afterlife so I don't really limit myself other than not putting the upside down cross on them or the number 666, basically I just avoid anything I think might look tacky.

Since I have an idea of what you're going for, and can't wait for the re-vamp...here's my advice.
Keep it subtle! It will be more intriguing and mysterious! Don't make an obvious demon with goat legs, snake tail, wings, and a pair of horns.

well don't rehash the plot of a woman getting pregnant because the devil or demon impregnated her. It rather a tired concept but if you find to make it interesting well then... Also try to diversify the demon you create, take from other cultures demon and monsters.

Have a look at what demons look like in other cultures (the Asian idea of the afterlife, for instance) and see if you can add a bit of that to the mix.

Do your research. Please do not borrow from other cultural symbols or practices without understanding what they mean and why it's done that way. Especially when it comes to Voodun (aka Voodoo) or Native American based systems of lore and magic. So many people just throw whatever cool thing they find, without any (or worse - the bare minimum) understanding of what it means. For people of those cultures it gets really really old to see their religion or mythology pooped on all the time.

Also: If you're doing anything with witches.
1. Most covens do not get naked. The people who do are kinda looked at like most Christians see Westboro Baptists.
2. Most covens are not female exclusive.
3. A witch refers to both male or female practitioners.
4. Witches come in every shape, size, sex, race, orientation and background.
5. Witches do not only worship a single god or goddess. They are polythiestic cultures, and focus largely on self knowledge, healing, earth/herbal magic.
6. Much like Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, etc all hang out under the same umberella of Christianity, Paganism has the same deal. Do your research into the different sects and traditions of paganism and witchcraft
