What are the more active hashtags for webcomics?

I could say more, but I think the title covers it. Note: This is for social media sites like Instagram or Twitter.

At my peek of posting, I used...
- comic
- webcomic
- manga
- webtoon
...amongst many others. I don't know if any of them made much of a difference. I also was told using too many flags your post and reduces your reach? I don't know...

What tags work best for you? Does anybody have it down to a science?

Also, just curious, how often do you personally check those tags for new comics to follow?

You used those as tags on Tapas? I think if people are scrolling through the comics section on Tapas, they're not going to bother using those in their searches.

I haven't seen an analysis of tags here. I often use watercolor, magic, and kitsune in my comics, but I don't know how popular they are.

The tags do not do anything, except when Tapas is having a contest and you use their tags. The secondary and tertiary genres don’t do anything either. Your comic/novel will only show up in the genre you selected as primary.

Yeah, probably should have mentioned I meant for social media sites, IG or Twitter... Places like that.

The tags do show up in searches, but you gotta specifically choose the tag tab, which is an additional step most people probably do not do.

Most social media websites have evolved past the need for hashtags at all. Twitter and bluesky will look for the search terms within the tweet, hashtagged or not, tiktok, Instagram reels and youtube shorts use the algorithm not based on hashtags but using the interests of people who have the same interests as you and the titles of the videos...
Hashtags are basically only useful in specific searches, which basically no one uses anymore because algorithms are so invasive that they don't need to.

In short: in 2025, hashtags are redundant, and they have been most places since around 2020.
