What sort of story are you in the mood for?

I suppose this could be both an inspirational thread and a recommendation thread, though I'm looking at this more for inspiration for my own writing.

Is there a type of story you are just itching to read? What sort of art styles are you craving?

For me personally, I've been in the mood recently for a story that reeks of nostalgia. You know that feeling when a character is introspective and they look back on their life, either with happiness, melancholy or sadness? I've always been partial to stories with that sort of message, but that feeling is difficult to find because it usually isn't posted in the descriptions or ad prints of novels or other stories. I recently read The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro and that really scratched the itch, but now I need something else to keep that desire satisfied!

Slice of life in a magic world. Not like they are questing or junk. Just like... hey we happen to use magic and this is our daily life.

....that and I love cooking anime. I am super weird there tho.

I just want a serious, cerebral, mature, genre subversion, with amazing pace and brilliant nuanced characterization preferably with action or mind bending scenes interspersed, that also deconstructs all of it's readers values... with wry, cynical humor to balance out the tone... and a twist ending wouldn't hurt. Is that too much to ask for?

Ahh, I have a recommendation! It isn't a 'cooking' anime per se, but have you seen Bartender? Its great. It is super relaxing, sad, funny, and all about mixing drinks to solve everyone's problems. If you like cooking anime, you might enjoy it.

I want action/ adventure/fantasy(or sci-fi) stories that can keep me guessing at every turn with a cast of highly competent characters in a race to out-wit each other in a life and death scenario. :c

You should read "The Buried Giant" then. Also by Kazuo, funny enough. Also is just DRIPPING with nostalgia.

My own needs for a story vary, however. I feel like what I've been writing (my comic The Stone Gods) has been pretty much scratching my own itch. I love good political drama, but also whimsical fantasy. It's hard to find a good combination of both. Though, The Expanse series is something I'm also dying to get into.

I am in the mood for several things:

Horror that explores the depths of the unknown -- be it space, the ocean, or even more unmarked terrains on Earth. I just love reading and writing stories where people stumble upon something no human should ever stumble upon and find out truths no one should ever know. Kinda tied to existential horror but without all of the negative nihilism that might come with it.

And Noir -- I love Noir, especially from the 1980s. There's just something so thrilling and exciting about people solving mysteries, murders, and whatever while having some chill 80s music playing in the background. Add in some mobsters, and you got me hooked

also fantasy but not all hero trying to fight a major evil in the world but just exploring the world for the sake of exploration and without the burden of an end goal
