What are your favorite informative articles on WRITING?

Hey there, everyone!

I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas for a new series and I was wondering if you guys had any interesting and informative articles on writing that you'd like to share to everyone here on Tapastic? It'd be cool to see all of them and help each other out.

I'm currently thinking about a romance comic but still developing the character so I'll post some relevant links later!

I love this site (despite the 90s layout, it is packed with writing tips). It's mostly geared towards novel-writing but a lot of the tips apply to comic stories as well.

Well, I'd recommend Deda's writing tips Whenever I feel like I want to refresh my brain a bit, I find myself going over these.

actually right now i'm looking for a stephen king book titled "On Writting" i've been told it pretty much covers all the basics and it'sreally good for comic/graphic novel authors too.

but i still don't know, if someone here has read it i'll thank a piece of your mind about it.

I used to read limyaael's fantasy rants obsessively. the writer behind the blog started it after becoming irritated with some of the cliches and common flaws of fantasy novels. they're rants and essays, not really articles -- so don't feel obliged to take her advice if you truly feel like it doesn't apply to your story -- but they're entertaining as hell to read. I agree with most of her points, and even the ones I don't entirely agree with are still worth thinking about.

As of 2010 -- the date of her last entry -- she was on her way to a PhD in English, if that helps her credibility any.

It's part autobio and part his POV of the writing skill. There are many useful tips and stuff that can also apply to the comic writer here and there but ultimately this is addressed to the novel-writer. It may also feel a little dated because King is fond of looking back at his golden years and it was so very different from the internet age we live in today. But it is a short read and King is King so it's not a dry manual, you can read it for fun.

I found it at the library, so I didn't even have to buy it. Although, I went and got a copy later on because I like it a lot.

I don't have trouble coming up with a lot of ideas, but instead, I have trouble filtering my ideas into something solid. This book helped a lot with that. Plus, I like to write as well as draw comics, so I enjoyed the very simple chapters on prose mechanics.

I was looking for something similar regarding comedy\gag strip writing. Anyone got any pointers on that?
