What are your most successful ways to promote a comic?

I'm not here to covertly promote my comic. I'm not even going to link it. I want to know about YOU. What method of promotion did you find to be most successful. Share and we can all learn some from this thread<3

One of the things I do is I always post an image with my links in order to cement branding for my story to my audience.

In addition to the plot pages, I also do "Etherwood Extras" as short jokes at the end of the chapter. One of those became very successful on Reddit. Otherwise, I know a forum where people are interested in the topics my comic is about and sometimes I post my comic links there.

For me, it’s definitely through making friends! Most of my active readers are amazing authors and artists themselves.

Another method I’ve found helpful is using social media. Building a community around your story can be challenging. I have art accounts across different platforms, mostly focused on fan art and specific fandoms. After connecting with many people, I began to share my story. Some of them started reading it out of genuine interest, which is rewarding to me.

I've said it many times, but by far the most successful promotion method for me has just been meeting people and making friends.

People really don't like being advertised to, so unless you happen to have an extremely eye-catching product, traditional advertising methods have a very poor conversion rate. It does work, but you have to keep trying, trying, trying, until eventually someone gets curious enough to check out your work. But you have to be careful not to be too aggressive about it, because again, people hate being advertised to. It's tough!

On the other hand, if they see you as a pretty cool person, they're way more likely to check out your work because they want to support you. Every successful social media artist I can think of doesn't just share their really cool artwork, but also their personality in a way that audiences can resonate with.

tl;dr, don't push a product, push yourself.

I won a comic contest, got printed, it´s some years ago already and
I´m still getting the benefits from that. Nobody cares that I actually
never finished the comic, I only did the 8 pages for the contest.

The benefits from getting printed and promoted through the magazine
was huge. Newspaper articles, interviews, and it got me a teacher job.

I barely do any online promotion, when my comic series comes out I will
publish part of it in printed magazines like those newspaper cartoons
and I will tour comic shops to promote the comic, get interviews etc.

My entire social media is just me talking and posting drawings of my characters and story.

Every once in a while there'll be someine who goes "I really gotta read your comic" to which I always reply with a link
