So you have already released a couple of chapters of your comic, about 60-70 pages total, and now a realization hits you after you had a level up in your artistic or editorial skills - either the design of the layout is shit, or you came up with much better design for one of the characters and you just can't keep drawing them with old design that you find ugly now... Maybe you feel that the whole major area where the story is taking place needs a complete redesign? Or you just read some very useful articles and learned that there are several things that you've simply been doing wrong, or very wrong, without knowing that (For example all your speech bubbles were just outlines and it resulted in black text on a dark background, and then you had read article on how to do bubbles correctly and what are the rules of bubble placement... Or that you used comic sans as a font of choice).
What do you think should be done from now on?
Just silently change the elements in question and continue like it's always been this way, what are you talking about?
Or pause the production, go back and re-do and update everything you had posted so far?
Or maybe introduce the change gradually, somehow? (Dunno how to achieve that in case of, say, page layout design, but for the character design it might be in the form of the character changing clothes)
My comic has several abrupt changes already (I changed style of shading (twice!), style of the page layout just recently, some minor things), has a couple more to go (secondary character designs were redesigned to have a much better clothing), and I just went with the first option of just putting them in and acting like nothing just happened. I wonder if that was the right thing to do, or should I go back and fix everything that was posted prior.
Spoiler
There's also a constant thought in my head that if I ditch the shading altogether and went with just lineart and simple shadows, I'd be able to crank out pages much faster, but it grinds against both the issue of the thread (everything before was in full color but now suddenly it will be B\W now?), the fact that it then will become even less competitive on the oversaturated market of webcomics than it already is (Most of the webcomics I know and read are either just full color or are done in an absolutely gorgeous art styles that I have no hopes to rival (And some of those people clearly had sold their souls to Satan, since they roll out beautifully rendered pages twice a week!)), and my own feeling about it being kind of shilling - betraying effort for quantity.
