What are your thoughts about GIMP?

I never got comfortable with it - I used Paint Tool Sai instead, before migrating over to Manga Studio.

(also, it's probably a good idea to title your threads a bit more clearly - if it's a thread about GIMP, put it in the title! It makes it easier to search the forums.)

Gimp takes way too long to load, and when i started using Mac the program became a nightmare to deal with because the buttons would glitch out on me. ): But in terms of laying out comic panels, I'm more comfortable with Gimp than Clip Studio.

You already know my thoughts about this haha. It's just got a really big learning curve and it's pretty bare bones as a program.

Only used it once. Didn't care for it. Quickly uninstalled it.

I mainly use it for installing Photoshop brushes and I also use some of its filters. I moved back to traditional inking almost a year ago and the only program I like using for coloring my inked work is manga studio 5.
I do like Gimp but it could use some improvement, I hate how it takes forever to load.

I think GIMP is a great program if you don't have any other options... I used it primarily for years (way too poor to pay for something). I finally got Manga Studio about six months ago and my life is soo much easier now.

I just use GIMP to either color pages or handle the misc. digital stuff that needs doing. It's pretty reliable for what I use it for, and it's free, and you can't beat free!

yeah at middle school there was once this comic creating devise thing and i thougth that it was the Bees Knees (granted I was a n00b xD) but now that I think about it it might not be all that great lbr

I was testing out a lot of programs a while back. I downloaded Gimp. Drew a few lines, and said, "this is crap" and uninstalled it.

I have seen people draw good in it to my amaze.

I used to use it when I was in high school and didn't have a tablet, it was okay but frustrating and always felt rigid. I haven't gone back since I got my tablet and other programs though.

I use it only to add text to my comics and that's it. All the tool boxes floating around and disappearing randomly is annoying and before I got a new monitor all the stuff was very cluttered. I wouldn't use it if I could add text with my current program.

I think GIMP has a lot of great artist potential and it's definitely a nice alternative to Photoshop, especially if you can't afford it. I have found in the past that i've been able to replicate many of the same effects as Photoshop in GIMP, but it was a lot more of a time consuming process to say the very least. I chose to upgrade to PS because I value my time, that and I was able to afford at that point. I'm currently experimenting with a few other programs right now (I actually started using Manga Studio a couple days ago and i'm liking it so far!)
