What attracts you to read a specific comic?

It's just a simple observation though.
I read your comic by the way, it's pretty interesting, kinda like a political drama as it is right now.

It's a lot different then mine, which sorta backs my previous post.

We both consider them the same genre despite how different they are in so many aspects.

I wish my comic had more pages out so I could point out examples between the two, but you'll have to take my word for now.

Your story seems to put the spotlight on the world, so far at the point you have now, the characters didn't seem to do much plot wise, but have been effected by the world around them.

The same amount of pages into my comics and you barely know much of anything about the world, but the characters are a bit more fleshed out and they are the central focus.

I hope that made sense, and that's just what I've seen of your comic so far, I really don't know what it's going to really be about, I'm just giving it a guess.

Agreed Unfortunately I'm still in the first chapter (and it took 30 some pages to set up the world) but I think at this point I can finally start working on the character-development side of things. (Honestly the first chapter alone is literally going to be over 100 pages, I'm trying to cut it down ( >___ >) .

I feel like a world has to be developed first (Obviously if terms like Run, Ru, Ruce, rogun, tiper, "my Daz!", "Go fall on your own tail!" start getting thrown around at the get-go without explaining the culture behind them viewers are just going to get thrown on their head). Although, if it involves humans or species already known by the populous, or locations very similar to earth and such, I think jumping right into character development is just fine

The context in which those are used gives enough explanation.
I can tell the "Ru" and "Ruce" stuff mean royalty, and the tail stuff is an insult based on the way they're used.

It's foreign, but still familiar enough for people to draw those parallels, so explaining those aren't too necessary. I have enough to go off of as a reader.

I'm interested to see things happen now that I know a little bit about the world.

Yeah, I just felt that giving examples and slowly introducing the concepts and backgrounds of their history would help solidify those assumptions and parallels.

Powers and abilities are okay to use, they can be interesting haha as I said in my reply to MylCreates, there´s "Avatar: the last airbender" this is an example of powers being used in an awesome way, as long as it´s well used I don´t see why it wouldn´t be cool to add powers to a character haha

In my story the characters have powers as well, since it´s a fancomic about "The PowerPuff Girls" then of course I know what you mean :3 just saying that it´s how one manages the story that is important above all

There´s nothing wrong about talking about one´s story, I´m sure everyone has something to say about their own story that makes it special xP

I checked your deviantart, is the comic you´re going to upload here the one called "Anima"? Or is some other one? I´d like to know :3

Oh that´s alright haha just mentioned it since in deviantart there´s a lot of topics about mary sues and the like... being in deviantart kind of makes you know about mary sues and stuff in the long run XD

Hello! Alright, let's give this response a shot here.

• I wander around a lot. I like to look around the "what's new" and the trending sections usually. As well as the collections.

• Depends! if it is a good story I stay and read through. If the art is good I'll give it a chance but I don't always focus just on that. :] Gotta have some meat to those bones! Something can look shiny and pretty but can still be rotten if it isn't developed right.

• I prefer fantasy the most! Don't read much else honestly unless in a different mood.

• I don't care for flat out horror and romance as much. ^^ Just not up my alley.

• Sci-fi! I'm trying to grow more in to that genre. :]

• What makes a comic good? The list is endless. Characters, art [objectionable though], plot, setting, dialog, believability, world-building, I could go on and on. As for bad. I believe a comic being considered bad is up to the reader. We all have different tastes in stories. Some prefer LOTR epic fantasy while others hate that. It is hard to directly say something is bad.

  • I will stop reading if I don't understand the art, the plot [after a certain point], or the dialog. Or if I just can't stand the characters.

As for my comic!
It is called Tyree and is set in a fantasy world. :] Mostly about the character Viktor as he runs away from home to go and try to talk to Death in to sparing his father. There is also fallen stars, wars between traditionalists and the Industrial Revolution, and a very ugly fish that seems to pop up now and then.
What I like about it? I get to color a LOT. I love coloring. You have no idea. Plus the characters are fun for me to draw and write for.
As for what is unique. Well the Ugly fish is a plus.

Oh that´s good :3 I understand that "bad comics" are subjective to personal taste, that´s a nice way to put it hehe
I also agree that if it´s not developed enough then the art gives this feeling of "there´s something missing"

Sci-fi is great I have an interest in parallel worlds, time travelling and more haha it is always amusing to see what the author can imagine and how they work their way into pulling the reader into their own world and perspective

Yes! The believability is so relevant, their way to convey their story is pretty important and how much immersion they can create are crucial elements x)

By the way, what´s "LOTR" ? xD Oh and I see.... well, I guess it´s a general thing that one would stop following a story out of being confused with the plot haha (saying this because of another reply this topic got)

aw thanks hun. The ugly fish....well. I made this angler fish doodle alongside a character once and named her Ugly and she somehow became a mascot for a few friends and I so I plan to have her pop in and out of pages time to time. Just an inside joke. xD

The Story Of Anima is what I'm calling it, it's a story all about adventure and having a good time.
You can follow a cast of characters as they adventure, fight, and get into shenanigans in a world where this weird energy that sometimes breaks the laws of the universe and sometimes doesn't is all over.

I could recommend following it if you like powers and fantasy worlds. It's a bit more grounded with powers, and not as high-fantasy as LOTR, but it does have it's own special vibe to it I think.

Hi there :3 I'm Merpy and I'm from Italy/Romania. This has been my first week so far using tapastic and it's been a pretty worthwhile discovery. Nowadays, a good fun, cute, or intriguing titles have made me want to start reading them. Although I tend to go more towards comedy since I like to have a few laughs, as well as some romantic stories. Horror, on the other hand, isn't my strongest genre (I freak out easily xD) but its really interesting to see Webcomics like this...I haven't really seen any webcomics actually and this is pretty phenomenal

These might be the most looked at but: Daydreamers, Holy Alice, and The Reaper and The Girl have been my top webcomics :3

Lots of interesting information on here! Usually what pulls me in to a comic is the characters-- If I fall in love with even one character... I will keep a comic around even if it's just the character doing day-to-day menial chores XD. But having a good, endearing story will suck me in to-- and that's a difference between stories I like and check when i'm on the internet and the ones I LOVE and think about even when I'm away from the computer.
Also sometimes even a cool character DESIGN will pull me to a comic XD.

I enjoy threads like these cuz it helps me learn what to do and what not to do. Since starting my own comic I feel a mighty need to edit my first pages with the knowledge I have now haha

Lol I'll give you an example of the character design thing... if you PROMISE not to judge XD.

I sat and watched hours of some silly show called "Monster High"..... despite the fact that the episodes were repetitive, characters and story were shallow, and it really didn't have a plot whatsoever..... ONLY because I loved how all the different characters looked XD. Their designs were neat to me.... and I wanted to see what other characters they would come up with lol. So I watched episode after episode.... just for the design XD. Pretty sad... T^T

Genres I like: Horror, horror and horror. The kind of horror that scares the crap out of me. For some reason I've always been a horror genre fan in comics, movies and video games. I prefer paranormal and survival horror.

Genres I don't care about: Romance. Mostly because it has been done wrong so many times I don't care to give it a try.

Genre I wouldn't mind reading as long as it's good: That would be fantasy or scifi? High fantasy is not my thing nor space things, but a little magic here and there can't harm anyone.

What makes a comic bad: When it focuses on fan serving and it's clearly done just to get popular.

What makes a comic good: When I see the artist really enjoys telling their little story, it's enough for me. If art is good but story awful, I might not read it.

My comic: Mine is Hiekkaa (name means Sand in Finnish), a story about corruption and oppression and other things ending with -ion. There's a small group called Sand Born who moves to a foreign city to take care of their imprisoned relatives there. And they have had enough of it.

Oh! Cool contribution to the topic :3 I understand you so much! I focus on horror a lot (well, it´s more psychological but it counts), In my case I love stories that portray a different perspective on things. When an author can use what happens around society and twist it as to explain his or her point in an interesting way, that is what I like and I strive for in the comic I´m doing :3

I also dislike romance since most of the times it´s just used in a way that makes you dislike it, I don´t like when people exploit the genre in a senseless way :/ if i´s done good and the story isn´t focused on that then I can give it a chance :3

Fan service is one of the things I dislike the most... It´s okay to give a little of fan service but not focus all the story on that!

I believe when an author is having fun with his or her story it shows with the storyline, the drawing style and whats going on in the pages tell you (more like shout) what the person is feeling in the moment when drawing :3

As for your comic, it sounds interesting! I´ll go look at it right away n_n
