What Cliches/Tropes Do You Enjoy?

Cliches and tropes are not only unavoidable but frequently necessary. While some can be harmful or just plain bad, there are plenty that serve as a cultural shorthand. Concepts that serve as a starting point that help stories along.

For me it's definitely average person versus great evil and all if it's variations. Basically the core of most young adult novels. Teenagers saving the world and all that.

I will also eat up almost every vampire cliche I can get my greedy hands on. Handsome, mysterious, charming stranger in the night? Yes, please.

Opposites attract- like someone represents light and the other person represents darkness? (silly example I know) oh! Or a tough/scary mean, reserved guy has a sweet outgoing girlfriend. I also love height differences too!

Orphaned kids surviving by their own means. As long as it's kept realistic enough (not too young and/or not too tough environment), it's a pretty common trope that I like. I have one orphaned girl in my comic, although her childhood is only seen in flashbacks. I'm not too sure why I like this trope though. Never thought about it before.

(Something happens and the two spilt....Years later they reconnect.)

MC: (playing game on phone and decides to look up from game)

(Same time the LI is staring at them. The two feel like they're the only ones there. Eyes lock btw bonus if they don't remember each other.)

I enjoy this all the time. XD

I like the cliche where a shy student transfers into a school and some other peppy/enthusiastic kid takes a liking to them and they instantly become friends (bonus points if the shy student is somewhat annoyed by the other's overly animated personality)

I'm a sucker for found family stories. There's just something about them that makes me really happy, especially if the characters initially didn't want to grow attached to the others but end up doing so anyways

I do love the runaway prince/princess scenarios, but you have to really give it a unique spin and break or twist it so it doesn't fall flat when I start to dive in.

When unrequited love between characters is finally acknowledged and understood. Don't have patience for the "will-they, won't-they" scenarios that hints at the inevitable for an entire series. Normal, real relationships don't tease or hold out for THAT long.

And the below-average, know-nothing greenhorn training and growing to become a force to be reckoned with! Which is why I am drawn to plenty of shonen manga.

The good guy turned villain trope. When a character I'm attached to suddenly goes bad. It hurts when it happens but the masochist in me loves the pain

I can relate to realistically written Intelligent characters (not "TV genius") with "Dark and Troubled Past" (of course, if this past isn't something I've seen 100 times already), and in most cases I take their side in the conflict, if I meet such a character anywhere (predictably, isn't it?).

Also I like aversions and deconstructions of popular tropes.

Does it count somehow?

P.S. And white-haired characters. White-haired characters make everything better.

No. It doesn't count. This is about established and abundantly used tropes that we like and will read over and over no matter how many times they get reused. Like Ra.zz's good guy turned villain. Where as I absolutely love the reverse, bad guy turns into lame good guy. Or....no one believes the teenagers/scientists/etc about something terrible until it's too late to stop it.

Oooh that one gets me so hard! Bonus: they grip hands and face their end. From Toy Story 3 to Les Miserables, no matter how it's done (even if they don't actually end up dying), it gets me right in the danged heart every time.

I like 'big, tough character who secretly has a heart of gold' trope.
'Science goes wrong' trope is fun too.
And the: When opposites characters who despise one another, ending up working together out of necessity then later getting along, building up friendship.

Surprisingly I don't know many tropes, maybe I can improve story-wise if I learn more.

Love myself some good ol "deal with the devil". Always good for drama.

We not even related, but I treat you like a family

The generals. Idk but I just love them, especially if they are intelligent
That cool guy who deeply inside is the cinnamon roll
That character who is mum of entire group
Gentle one
Another mythological creatures than dragons, werewolves, and vampires (at least redesigned, I just a little bored of the same cliches)
Self-created hard magic systems
Ruined buildings, and left villages
Using another mythology than Greek. (I love Greek mythology, but there are so much of it! By the way if somebody know some good comic with mythology, please let me know.)
Positive hot-headed character
Fairy tale motives/ vibes/ based
