What comic series do you like, and what series do you wish there were more of?

Well I like a variety of genres and plots, but one thing I really want to see more of are stories about characters older than 25 (or coded/behaving as such). It's like the older I get, the harder it is for me to identify with these younguns especially when it comes to romance and slice-of-lifes. I'm tired of the teenage angst.

I too would like to see series that have older characters. And something more than just a character complaining about how "adulting is hard".

It would also be nice to have a series with a gay/bi male lead which does not solely revolve around him romancing the first pretty boy he meets.

Romance comics that arent romance from the start? The 'love at first sight' thing actually gets used a lot and i'd like to read something where the romance develops more slowly. Also romance comics that aren't just about the romance, i'd like for the characters to have their own goals and motivations that are outside of the romance and not just getting together with this other person (its fine if this is one of there goals but not the only one)

I want more girls love that is not between high schoolers and drama OoO, for now I am satisfied with The Order of Belfry and Our Colors
I want BL where you don't know who the main character is going to end up with OoO.

I'd really like to see more long-form horror and thriller! Short horror stories seem to be the norm, like gag-a-day (scare-a-day??), especially on Webtoons. And I'm not just talking about more zombie comics (although they are good). A typical fantasy comic could become a good horror/thriller if the suspense and sense of peril were increased.

Since I, myself, like to draw and read mature comics (not in terms of romance but topics like war, responsibilities and psychology) I would like to see more of them in trending or popular. Most comics I find here are pretty and happy-themed but I prefer dark and grim stories with action and nice plot (and please no romance as a main topic). There are a few I stumbled upon by luck on twitter but I'd have never found them here.

I want more silent comics. Ones that are more about world building rather than plot

My 8 bit story is a great example of exploring the world with no text.

I'd like to see more well-layered characters. I think too many of them are flawless and perfect these days, and very similar to each other! Friendships lack conflict and disagreements and that's... boring. There's no growth in it. If the characters are already oh-so-cool-and-happy-go-lucky what's there to develop?

I agree, although I think we have a lot of comics with flawed characters but they're still rather... tame with their flaws or we see similar flaws or despite their flaws the characters are still good. I'm falling in love with comics where there there don't seem to be any good guys (like Next Town Over) or the good guys are flat out jerks (like Full-Spectrum Therapy). They both happen to be suspenseful

As a Tales fan, I really enjoy stories that are on the longer side, well built in plot, complimenting artwork (even if the art is just black and white or something, so long as it works for the story) with actual unique storylines (maybe that's ironic to say as a Tales fan but that's besides the point).

Some series that I particularly enjoy (with these traits) are Fisheye Placebo, Grassblades, Scurry, A Better Place, and - while they're fanfiction comics - A Tale of Two Rulers by Figment Forms (a beautifully drawn ZelGan comic), and all of LynxGriffin's Undertale works, including her True Lab Origins series, Flowey Origins series, and most impressive, her Gaster-based series, Dogs of Future Past.

Unfortunately, those stories are very few and far between in webcomics, namely because 1.) long webcomics take years to craft, years that a lot of people aren't willing to put in, 2.) there are a lot more people in webcomics who don't know how to craft a good filling story with art that holds up than those who do, 3.) it's very hard to find these types of stories in the sea of gag-a-days and BL's, and as a result, 4.) most creators just do gag-a-days, BL's, etc. as a "safety cushion" because they're simple, and there are a lot of resources and jokes/plotlines to pull from already (ex. the "anxiety sucks, look i suffer from anxiety, feel my pain" comics, "hey look i'm a woman, i suffer from my period too!!!1!!", and "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DRAW SO I'M JUST GONNA TALK ABOUT IT" strips, alongside generic cookie cutter "long ago in the land of [insert kingdom name here", "I'm a quirky girl who's in love with a mysterious guy!", and "I'm a main character who fits into all the minorities of society so that automatically makes this good reading material, it's rElAtAbLe! " plotlines.

sigh I just want a well though out story with decent character development OUTSIDE OF ROMANCE (I don't mind romance but when that's the only motivation for any and every character, ughhhh), a depthful plot that challenges the mind of the reader, and actual consequences besides "my boyfriend might dump me".

Surreal comics that aren't just 2deep4me, stoner trash, look like picasso's vomit or someone's excuse not to make an effort to write a story so they resorted to slapping their doodles into comic panels.

Manga where the artist actually developed a style for themselves instead of copying every single style that already exists.

Comics that try to spread a good message without being violently political, resort to strawmaning, be something other than saccharinely sweet and vapid and doesn't alienate those whose would probably not understand or be part of the issue and still be entertaining.

Oooo, I like the manga point you make. I also am a huge fan of the compositional feel/atmosphere of a manga but with a confident, unique technical approach. It's difficult to say "manga" and avoid the whole syntax therein but essentially something that's tight, brisk, and self-contained. I follow a lot of manga published on pixivコミック (pixiv's comic platform) and there's so much indie work that just blows me away. A wide variety of style and storytelling that inspires and impresses me.

Comic series that I REALLY like put a heavy emphasis on character interplay. I adore interactive things, kind of slice-of-life but with a focus on exchanges of ideas and concepts. Exploration of each other's hopes, dreams, fears through multi-dimensional characters and constructs. More characters I guess, haha!

I'd like to see more horror/supernatural comics, so much so that it's my next project. I used to read them as a kid, and some of the art has left such a lasting impression on me, it would be awesome to attempt the same. My favourite genre though is Superheroes, they seem to be a bit more snubbed here on the webcomic scene, perhaps due to the overkill of them in the mainstream, but I think Superhero webcomics have such a great charm, people shouldn't be so hard on them. Check out Neon Rabbit for a great example of this.

I'm really digging most of the replies in this thread because I agree and (I'm so sorry to plug I feel so guilty in this situation LOL) with my own comic Nocturne I'm addressing a lot of these topics! My comic features:

• All main characters being within their mid twenties to early 30s with support characters aged upwards of 60
• A darker storyline featuring a serial murderer (though I've been told to classify it as horror-comedy because it's not strictly horror, I like to make things a little rompy)
• The lead characters are a bisexual woman and a bisexual man
• Romance is an element but isn't the forefront of the plot and is something that develops as a side note between various characters

For me, I'm really personally inspired and fond of stories that can switch between funny, rompy and playful and then back to terrifying, serious, scary, sad, without it feeling unnatural. From a writing and story structure perspective, my biggest inspirations are the Ace Attorney series, Full Metal Alchemist, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, etc. All of these series have a very good balance of fun, playful moments and then delve deeper into the darker details of the plot that often include murder, psychological struggle, complex relationship dynamics, etc. I like stories that are layered and have multiple threads going on that come together to create a full, deep story with a lot of nuance. I aim to write all of my stories this way but especially with my comic right now because it's what I'm working on actively!
