What do people hate about your comic?

my comic hasn't been running for very long so i haven't had a lot of complaints but the main one is definitely "why is this episode so short?" i don't even want to honor that with a response tbh :/ it's my choice to make them that length and frequency, and honestly it's something i've asked for feedback on multiple times so the current method IS what readers wanted

Is this on Webtoons or Tap?
On Webtoons I'm starting to just not care... :'D I can't win there in regards to the length of my episodes. My last update was 11 pages (Granted one was a title page, but that's still 10) and it still got a comment saying it was too short.

honestly, i dont think ive yet got to a point where ppl have broken past the 'its just starting out' politeness. that being said, many people when asked have pointed out struggling with the font; i use a kinda weird one for the specific speaker in the prologue and i'll admit its a pretty inaccessible font, but theres few that fit the intended aesthetic while being creative commons. either way, im looking for alternatives for later issues.

I also haven't gotten any hate but some people do really dislike a few things in the comic:
- Some people dislikeing a few characters, specifically the female lead, but in contrast some people LOVE her, and this was expected because I wrote her in a way which her actions may not be very 'likable' to some people. But this was mostly at the start of the comic.
- that the main 2 aren't together yet XDD which is fine but I hope people have a lot of patience

@60Six my episodes are around 20+ panels per episode and I get that comment too. So just don't worry about it no matter how long an update is they will say it XD

I've had people tell me that my story doesn't upload enough (despite updating at the time 2x a week with 3 pages each episode). These are people IRL who have never read a webcomic before, so I don't worry about this complaint too much.

I haven´t gotten that much criticism has of yet...
I´ve seen comments of shock and surprise by the dark turns I have given early on the series but nothing really negative aside from my early designs.

I always get the "I'm confused" in most chapters. I think it was because most readers don't get context clues that much, so I really need to spoon-feed information so they'll get it. I also suck at writing dialogues and transitions so there's that. Well, I hope to improve. I also have my favorite comment that I took with a huge grain of salt.

... I'm too old to be ready for this shit. Its too childish and you lack in a lot of skills, your script needs so much work -.- how do you block an author?

I'd love to get an editor to whip my ass but that costs money and I don't think its worth it for a trial webcomic...I cry every night I remember this, I'm laughing. (and lowkey dying)

So far my comic Numb hasn't gotten any sort of hate, but two complains I've gotten are that the story is too slow, then others say it progresses too fast.... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Oh and way back when I was starting and we're only prologue in people found it comfusing sometimes, but now when things are more established that problem seems to have gone away. I guess it's just matter of perspective and how far the story was already when these readers jumped in. Longform stories can be tricky in webcomic format where you get only one page every week.

I haven't gotten any hate on my comic yet (criticism sure, but I don't like bundling that with hate since I don't think that's healthy), but I have gotten hate on my style in general, but it's usually just the nonsense "it's bad" or "it scares me" comments that don't serve much purpose beyond people trying to ruffle my feathers (not that it works, because 9 times out of 10 comments like that make me laugh ESPECIALLY when people say my style scares or disturbs them. I've maybe had my feelings hurt twice over comments like that, and chances are I was already having a bad day when I saw them so obviously it'd get to me a little more).

My style is def not everyone's cup of tea, but I really don't have it in me to care if someone doesn't like it. I chose to make it this way, after all. If I cared what people thought, I'm very capable of switching styles and using something "nicer".

I've only gotten some slight hate in the past, but there's a few people that have repeatingly told me off for some things.

-My handwriting
-How I draw faces
-How messy the comic is
-Someone literally told me off for 'attacking' a children's show that "wasn't for my age group" I had to delete the comment chain because it was getting really, really out of hand and they weren't listening to me at all.

Recently, not hate but this person hasn't given me a break.
-Says I can't draw kids
-Doesn't like that I leave sketch marks
-Doesn't think I'm a good artist
-Has taken to other platforms to give me 'feedback' on my other works. xD

The ones I take light hearted because I agree with them to an extent, are the ones that wish I worked in color. I'd not call that hate though. Just wishful thinking. xD Same with those that want me to print my comic.

Fortunately I haven't gotten any real hate on any of my comics here on Tapastic. But I haven't gotten criticism either, which I would like to get to improve.

The only thing close to negative feedback I got, is people commenting words like "update" with lots of question- and exclamation marks, which probably means my readers think I make them wait too long. (Wich is totally true) But it also means they want to see more, which is actually a very good thing.

And once when I did a giveaway I got some hate/ jealous comments from people who didn't win haha. Telling me they didn't want to follow me anymore or something.

So I think I'm very lucky to get so much positive feedback from everyone on Tapastic

Some people in my actual life don't seem to like my comics that much tho
They think one of my comics is lame and generic, and don't take it serious at all. And they say my other comic is like it's written by a twelve year old, and doesn't make sense.
They also say I draw too many regular teenagers and tell me to create more different kind of characters. (Things like age and bodytypes, etc.). They also think my characters are awkward and unrealistic. That there happens too little in too many pages, that I write boring dialogues. And I don't even remember what they have said haha.

What they said actually bothered me quite a lot, it made me kind of dislike my comics. But at the same time, all the respect and positive feedback I got on Tapastic really motivates me to keep going. After all, the people at school are not even my target audience, so their opinions on my comic don't matter that much. And they have given good criticism and feedback too, which helped me improve. #EmoModusOff

I don't really have any hate on my comic yet since it's only seven pages in. I got some good constructive criticism from some people that I've since put into good use:

-Lines could be cleaner.
-Values could have more contrast.
-Change that font.
-Put more effort into the backgrounds.

Like I've said, I haven't been around long enough to get hated on yet, but I can imagine where people could get annoyed:

-The action scenes are too padded.
-Not enough panels per page.
-Beginning chase scene might be confusing.

That's pretty much it. I've thought of maybe one or two reasons someone might get offended, but I'm not going to worry myself with that. I can't control how other people react or feel, so I'll just do the best I can and take all the reasonable criticism that comes my way.

i dont get a whole lotta hate either like most people i guess. but i dont have a ton of subscribers either so im bet theres loads of stuff to hate if i get the right people
a few times tho people said that there was somethin off about the way i drew faces in the first chapter. and lookin back at it they were right cuz some of those faces looked super weird. but i think i fixed it
also one time someone just went into one of my main characters callin her some really ungood words. but it was just that one person and it was sorta fun to have someone hate her that much actually

I haven't gotten any sort of hate, especially hate-hate, thank goodness

But from stuff I've gathered for Cosmic Fish (this is a mix of comments, reviews, and a survey I made)

-Some people want more exposition, some people want less.
-motions to either side- but I think this is much like the 'subtle' bit that with people reading two pages a week, they won't notice the key details in the bg without giving it a re-read, and think that characters are giving exposition when it's just an opinion. But the fact there's conflict on this just kinda keeps me doing what I'm doing, most people seem happy with it, and prior things are starting to make sense with the readers so...yay!

-"It can be dialogue heavy"
This one confuses me tbh, there are conversations, I get, but I don't think there's ever been a paragraph, except for maybe two pages out of 180? (And one it's a character that has confessed they love to hear themselves talk) or just a lot of back-and-forth, which the latter I can get if it's not someone's cup of tea. I just enjoy that and it makes the quiet moments all the more refreshing (although maybe it appears to be that way since the text is kinda big?) But I respect people's preference, it's just kind of weird how some comics just have A LOT of more text that comes off as unnatural imo.

-"I want more action"
There's action but it's not an action-driven comic. It does escalate as the story progresses buuuut I can totally get the wanting to have these two factions duking it out already.

-It's too fast vs. It's too slow
I get the first chapter is pretty fast, it was kinda worked on as a pilot I decided to stick with later on, so I can get it and I wish I had made it longer, but if it gets the point across perfectly as is, why pad it for run-time? People who give it a whole read seem to enjoy the pacing, at least! Lotta people seem to binge-read it at once in under an hour, and then I guess they become impatient waiting for updates since they disappear for months at a time. Not that I mind, I'm glad they enjoy it that way! but then it's "too slow". :S

This has led me to post multiple-page updates for days but it's just gotten in the way of my health trying to do that AND stick to a distance with the queue. e-e

That being said, I identify with the frustration of feeling like you need to "spoon-feed" information to people and then they say they get it but then say they're confused and just...keep rowing. Keep doing what you're doing if there's no agreement.

So far, the only complaints I've seen is that I don't update enough. But that's probably because I only post on Tapastic once a chapter is completed and that can be around 20 pages. So it can take weeks before it's done and posted here.
