I mean, I can't go straight hours of comic making without breaks here and there, even if i do comics all day. The longest i can go without a break is usually an hour, and suddenly i have to do something else to clear my head and find something refreshing, then go back on drawing. Is it just my inability to focus or I'm bored easily? I don't even know. Do you guys experience the same thing or is it just me?

It's actually good to take breaks. Drawing for long periods is hard on your body. Many artists develop problems with their hands, wrists, and/or backs from working too many hours in a row too frequently.

I have like 0 consistency, so there's times I'll sketch for like 20 minutes and get bored/distracted, and other times like this past Saturday where I'll sit down and color for 7 hours straight...

I like infilling my breaks with food (if I'm drawing after work, dinner. On the weekends, lunch/dinner) or a short session of video games. I've found online multiplayer games to be useful for this purpose, something like Splatoon 2 has 5 minute match times so it's easy to hop in, play a few rounds, and get back to it.

I study. I have to take a test in a week and I want to continue my studies lol

I agree with the idea of having breaks since it's essential for our health but in my case it's more like mentally exhausted too quickly? I need refreshment every so often to get my soul/spirit ready back? It's not a physical thing. But maybe that too need breaks and some adjustment just like you said i guess? Haha thank you for replying.

Haha same I have zero consistency too, and i hope as i keep drawing in the future I'll be able to develop a habit and get on with it. I also like food, it's the best stress reliever ever haha but i avoid games since I'll gladly toss aside my comic and play it all day xD

I mean if it's a mental issue that's fair too, usually the physical issues are due to working long periods on the regular over a period of years. The breaks are more preventative for the physical stuff.

That's what often happens during those times I only last like 20 minutes... if I'm not feeling it I can easily extend that "break" for hours

Playing games and watching anime mostly, unless you count other workings i have to do.

I'm probably the WORST when it comes to breaks. Gimme a bottle water, my wireless headset, and some music and I will work for 4-6 hrs straight(sometimes 8) before I look up and be like, "Hey- I need to take a break/stand up and stretch,"- especially during the coloring phase; I'm usually more attentive during the inking phase after about 2 or 3 panels.

Usually during my breaks, I'll stretch or stretch out on my bed so my bod can stop feeling stiff/sore, get some more water, and/or something to snack on. I try to keep my breaks to 30 minutes or an hour, then get back in there and power out the rest of the work.

It's hard when you get in a groove you just lose track of time! I definitely find myself doing this sometimes.

for mini breaks I usually just stretch and... this is horrible but my breaks usually involve snacks.

Otherwise I'm not really taking a "break" from art. I'm just living my life outside of art. Art is more like my break from life.

Now that I think about it maybe it's because I'm constantly learning while drawing, not just drawing and that's why I'm more exhausted more quickly.

Ahahahah you're case is similar to me I often take breaks every half an hour or so xD

Playing games and watching anime is obviously fun things! Too bad they take time too much ><

You are great already! I mean I want to be able to work for hours before taking breaks. It's really hard to do since I'm exhausted too quickly. Maybe I'm unconsciously still learning and trying to be better while drawing, and I haven't reach a level where I can solely draw without thinking anymore!

Doing art feels better when it's just a hobby and a break from life, indeed. And me too i always have snack since it's the most effective thing to get my mind fresh again xD

i do my best to take breaks and stop in time for bedtime XD

When I take breaks, I usually do something that doesn't require a screen. I work a lot on the computer for work and comics, so I need to give my eyes rest.

So, there's updating my planner and doing stretches/tai chi.
Gotta keep the blood flowing!

Ooooh what a useful tips! It makes sense that our eyes need rest too. Thank you for sharing that!
Ahah I also constantly updating my planner since I'd feel burdened if I realize how much I've been behind the schedule xD

Tbh breaks are always good. I have developed some wrist problems and am currently seeing a doctor because in addition to school and studying I also draw, and after months of not taking breaks it takes a toll. I'm making a lot of progress with the issue but the fact that I developed it in the first place is just ridiculous.
