Me: How do you spell cultural food you always make? I'm trying to google it but I'm not getting anything.
Mom: I duno. No one knows. What I call it is short (or slang) for what it was actually called it didn't have spelling. I don't know what it's really called.
Me: ah... I see.
Mom: I think in English they call it English name of a food that is absolutely not at all what the food is similar to
Me: ... no... no I really don't think that's what they call it mommy.

Dad: You know in my country we have elephants.
Me: Yeah, I know you mentioned before, they're your favourite animal.
Dad: I miss elephants.

Also really awkward stuff like... dad will find a video documentary and get excited to show me and be like "Look!! This is where I grew up in my country!" and the video will be titled 'the concentration camps of Laos' or something like that and just.........................
