What do you think of "Thank You" Images?

Also, I should probably add that I have considered not posting them, and just sticking to posting milestone-thank yous on my own wall, but I've had a bunch of positive reactions to it so I've just kept it going. Might stop at some point, but I haven't decided yet.

What made me first consider making a Thank-You was how excited I was about new subscribers. Subscribing feels like more of a compliment than Following on other social media, for some reason; it's someone specifically saying "I want to read your comic now" and I wanted to express and acknowledge how cool that was!

I found and read through this older thread while I was making up my mind and saw that, while there were one or two people who didn't like them, the majority of people were really excited to get art on their walls, and that cinched it for me!

I have a note in my profile saying that "I leave thank-yous but feel free to PM me if you don't want one," and I also always check to see if there's any notes in the subscriber's profile saying they don't want/prefer thank-yous. I just want people to know that I won't be insulted if they'd rather not get it on their wall, but I also don't wanna guess and accidentally leave someone out! ;u; I also try not to respond immediately, in case they subscribed by accident or change their mind quickly. xD

I was gonna do the "add the person's name so that it's personal" thing but it's hard for me not to feel a little artificial doing that, so I left it out and just type a thank-you message along with the art!

I've never gotten one myself (my reading list is very small), but I'm definitely not opposed! And it's pretty cool to be able to find new comics on other people's walls, so I like the tradition a lot. ;u; I definitely think it would be nice if Tapastic implemented a "pinned post" like twitter has, though; I can understand being frustrated at official announcements being buried under thank-yous.

I've always though that the argument that "thank you" posts are annoying because they can double as promotion for the creator is a little strange. We're always talking here about how important it is to promote and what nicer way to spread our message than thanking someone for liking our stuff enough to subscribe to it? Or even liking it enough to bookmark it with a subscription? If we enjoy someone's work enough to subscribe shouldn't we be glad to do something to promote it as passive and minimally difficult as have their "thank you" on our walls? Those of us who also have comics out there to promote should be the most understanding and tolerant of other creators' attempts to spread the word about their work, especially when it's something as innocuous as a "thank you" post.

Yeah, this! This has happened for me too! I'll go to someone's profile to thank them or something, and find an interesting thank-you picture and through it, find a nice new comic to read! A lot of the lesser known comics on Tapastic can easily get drowned out by the stuff that makes the front page categories, so the thank-you images are a nice way for me to find new reading material (I rarely randomly browse for comics).

I personally don't send thank you notes, but honestly it's because I'm super shy and awkward and I haven't worked up the courage to make them yet, ha.

That said, I love everything about thank you notes. I've found tons of really great comics through thank-yous on other people's walls. And I love getting them on my own wall, even if they aren't personalized or anything. They're actually probably one of my favorite things about this community. So yeah, I'd say everyone should be sending them (at least to me!!) (man, I'm a hypocrite.)

I don't mind getting them, in fact some are pretty clever and bring a smile to my face. I also like to see pictures on my wall other than my boring posts. lol.

I don't post them because I don't have the time, and usually I get batches of subs every update or so and it's hard to track each person down (well not that it's that hard, just time consuming).

I like getting them but then again, I don't subscribe to new comics so often so I won't find it annoying or anything like that. Personally, I do post 'Thank you" post on my new subscriber's wall but that's only if they reply to the other Thank you post posted by other artist because I am aware how some people find it to be annoying and I don't really want to irritate anyone.

On a serious note lol. I do enjoy them! though it could get a bit crowded on a creators page if your trying to tell you followers something. more or less, they are really good for discovering newer comics! funny enough, sometimes I browse other peoples profiles sometimes to find something interesting lol. it just happens!

This is a very interesting discussion! I've been meaning to make a "thanks for subscribing" picture but was curious over the opinions behind it. I can understand where both sides are coming from, though I think in the end I quite like the idea of people finding new comics through thank you messages on each other's walls and talking with the creator =)

I like them a lot! I'm actually working on making some type of "Thank You" image for my subscribers, or like a milestone thing or something. I don't find them annoying or anything, but I can certainly understand why some would find it a bit imposing I guess. To me, Thank you pictures seem a bit more personal, which I like!

I've never used a Thank You image. It seems really daunting to have to send one to every single follower so I just didn't bother with it...

I started doing it when I was relatively new... but I had a surge of subs thanks to staff pick (all gone downhill since haha) and couldn't keep up so just abandoned the idea.

I think for the most part it's a nice thing to do, especially with like a personal note of thanks. But I quickly realised a lot of people don't use the desktop site, so some people probably don't realise there's a massive wall of them on their profiles haha.

I'm really neutral about them. It's both fun to get them but at the same time I usually don't know if I'm supposed to reply to them or something... Ok, that has more with me being awkward than the pictures themselves. :'D but yeah, pics are fun and make the wall pretty.

I've been thinking about making some sort of thank you picture for 150 subs that would be the next milestone. I haven't sent any yet because first I didn't know it's Tapastic custom, then I didn't have time to make one aaaand then I got awkward again thinking it would be very weird sending one for someone who has been subscribed for a long time because obviously I couldn't start sending them only to new subscribers... I may be overthinking this a bit. xD

I agree with AnnaLandin, when she thanked me, I really appreciated it because, in a vain, narcissistic way, it was nice to get noticed! LOL But also I think that it is a great idea that helps foster a sense of community and it's a nice personal touch from a creator that makes people feel welcomed.
I also agree with her second point about interacting because I always ask for feedback about things they liked or disliked (from my two subscribers! haha!. CurlyFu and I are still waiting for that feedback Haha
All in all, I say that it's a great idea! Go team

I think the concept of Thank You notes are great. Because there is no "post this picture or message on all of my subscriber's walls" option, it means that an individual creator had to spend time to post it on your wall. It's a kind gesture, but it can also come across as a promotional item. In a way it is, but isn't everything we're all doing here on the forums or on social media? If you have a decent comic, you want people to see it, right? So what's a better way to show yourself off than through a kind gesture towards a fan that also can lead interested people to your comic? In that case I would say the whole thing a very positive notion. Not all creators have this same kind of viewpoint, and sometimes a creator will have SO many subscribers that they have no time to do it, but sometimes they even post that thank you on THEIR wall in order for people to see it, just so that the gratitude is still there. (I'd rather have it on their wall rather than take up space in an episode anyways)

In other words, it's great that a lot of creators take their time to thank their followers. And that extra effort put in for posting a picture on your wall is a great gesture. If you think that it's just a marketing ploy or an excuse to promote yourself, I don't think that's really all that bad either. We all have to look out for each other and ourselves in this "business", and for the "clients" we have, a thank-you note is like a business card.

Of course, this is different than if someone posted a "hey check out my comic" link or something on my wall. That's a bit more negative.

I had this same worry actually. xD I ended up sending them to my 10 most recent subscribers I think? and posting a message on my wall saying "IF YOU FOLLOW ME AND YOU FEEL LEFT OUT PM ME AND I'LL SEND YOU ONE TOO!!" because I didn't want to suddenly spam everyone with a thank you. xD

This might sounds like a thought out of left field but I like to look at thank you images like collecting pieces of flare or badges. If anyone has seen Office Space and remembers the Flare the waitresses wore, then you know what I am mean. Its a fun way to show support between the creator and the subscriber. It hasn't always been this easy to get direct contact from the creator of media you like so I find thank you images to be charming.

Hmm... I think they're OK but I have mixed feelings on them.

On one hand I have found some cool comics through them by seeing them on other people's walls---- on the other hand they come off a little spam-y and insincere.

It reminds me of when people thank you for favorites on dA. It's like a mechanical response, that shows up in someone's inbox and then they delete it.

So I don't do it, because I don't want to annoy anyone ^^;;

to be honest, im interested only in comic, not in the thx-images. so this mean if i like a comic and i want to follow it... i dont need a thximage. but if some1 want to give it one to me, thats ok... its not a tragedy and i can move on lol.

on the other side, i dont do that for the motivations above...
