What do you use to resize your pages and how do you do it?

So, I’m planning to launch my comic on Wednesday, but I know I have to shrink down my pages first (with the maximum width being 940 px and my pages all being the size of an A4 sheet).
Now, when I would post art here on the forum, I’d usually either take a screenshot or import the image into a canvas of the correct size and shrink it to match, but this practice has always resulted in a significant drop in quality (looks okay when zoomed out, pixelated and weird when zoomed in).
Is there any way to avoid this happening? I was told to use Canva for resizing my drawings, but couldn’t figure out how to do it (this is probably on me though), so I wanted to ask you guys what you use for resizing your pages without losing a significant amount of quality?

On PC you can just use the resize tool in your pc gallery (like the app that pops up when you open the jpeg file from your folders), I've yet to find a pc that doesn't have that option, sometimes it's squirrelled away in a burger menu or you have to click "modify" to have access to it, but it's always there somewhere. You just make sure that the ratio is kept (so when you modify the width to tapas required size it automatically changes the height too), don't downgrade the jpeg quality and you're done.

However, a reminder that losing pixels will make your image look worse in the details, that's pretty inherent to the process, but it should look way better than taking a screenshot.

I draw using ibis paint x and then merge the pages using the Image Combiner & Editor app (yes, I use an Android device).

I used krita to draw the pages of my comic that I've posted so far, and you can resize a drawing there under the image menu

I use Krita to draw and will sometimes use it to resize, but for a quick & dirty resize (including resizing for this forum) I use paint.net. I always save a full size version as my "working" copy (and also to preserve detail), and then save the resized version in a different folder entitled "smol".

As @moontokkym mentioned, you will lose detail. That is an unavoidable and unfortunate cost for resizing because you're jamming several pixels into the space of one, and the computer does its best job at guessing what that one pixel should look like (and some programs are better than others at guessing).

I use Gimp, but any image editing software has an image resizing tool, that will get you far better results than screenshots!

You're a digital artist, right? Export your final full-resolution image as a png (or whatever), then re-open your image in your editor of choice, and change the image size. In Gimp, the command is image>scale image, then put your desired output size and export the result into a new image.

Here are screenshots for resizing images on the computer for Windows, if that helps. It could be similar for other operating systems (Apple IOS) or devices (tablets), but I would not know.

Reference for default Windows Photos (as of Jan 17 2026 anyways) on computer

(1) Click on the 3-dots button. It will pull down an additional menu.
(2) Select Resize image. This pops out a window.
(3) Adjust settings in pop-up window. Resize > by pixels, width = 940 px, Quality: 100% High, File type: PNG or other
(4) Save image. This should ask you where to save image -- file location and name. Remember to rename file under different/new image so it does not save over your full-size copy.

Reference for MS Paint (the old one) in computer.

(1) Open picture in Paint
(2) Resize by pixels
(3) Save as new picture file

Other Notes -- Most digital drawing programs should be able to resize picture/change resolution. However, if you are drawing digitally with layers, I would recommend saving as a flat picture (final) and resizing the final picture without layers. It's easier for the program to resize one layer rather than multiple.

I use ibis paint...
1) save the image (my images are 1536 x 2048)
2) make a new file that's smaller (mine is 800 x 1067)
3) import the image then scale accordingly.

Thanks for the advice! This is a lot of different options so I’m sure I’ll find one that works for me.
I was aware that the resized pictures would have a lower quality than the originals, it’s just that image resizing tools smoothen out the pixels, while my other methods would pixelate my art and make the lighting completely disappear 🫠

I use Canva Pro for a fast way now. Canva has a free version too.
Before all that. for decades, it was Photoshop.
I take my print size version from Clip Studio Paint and then I made a template for the size I wanted for net friendly in Canva Pro which is wayyy smaller and plopped the image into it. Then hit save as for png.

I use clip and just change the sizing in that once the pages are done and save them as the smaller versions.

I use krita too
there is this docker in krita called the comics manager

Under it, I find this export settings user friendly, most of the time, I try to draw to the nearest canvas size like 940 px or 800 first, and in some cases I draw on canvas size of 4000x6400 if I'm drawing some detailed backgrounds... then export it with desired width from this selection.. but as said above loss is unavoidable while shrinking images.. but original kra file format and its canvas size is preserved..
