What Do You Want to Read?

Basically what specific characters, genre, or conflict do YOU want to read about in webcomics? Not everything you want to read, but ideas that really intrigue you.

I'm asking because I love being free to create whatever comes to mind, but I also think appealing to the audience is very important. The social feedback aspect of Tapastic really makes it worthwhile whether it's getting praise on your own work or commenting on someone else's.

For me I enjoy moody or quirky, androgynous protagonists. And I'm always interested in stories featuring reincarnation or classic gods/monsters in an alternative setting.

i really love nonhuman/monster sci-fi/fantasy characters, i'll read (or watch) pretty much anything if a character has mind control/hypnosis abilities because its one of my favorite superpowers for some reason??? i also really love grand adventure/long journey type stories like ava's demon and more than meets the eye.

I really enjoy crazy off-the-wall action comedies with plenty of different powers and quirky character types. I also really love time travel stories, really good detective mysteries, and also mysteries that involve murderers/traitors within a group with everyone guessing "Whodunnit?" and being paranoid and distrusting of each other, but being forced to work together through the situation.

I love stories that I can theorize about. Stories that constantly leave an air of mystery about them and make you want to learn more (and even better, talk about it with those who also read it). When a comic creator is able to pull off an immersive world with interesting characters, environments, and conflicts, they usually get an A+ in my book.

I like really deeply written stories. I like stories where you suddenly realized something seemingly insignificant that happened earlier was relevant to the plot and it makes you go back and look at the story carefully. To keep going back to earlier points, for me is a sign of masterful story planning.

I also really like it when stories reference literature or philosophy - of course, so long as it has a good connection to the story and isn't just sprinkled on for the sake of snob appeal. I like it because then I become interested in those works and I want to read them too.

Finally, I'm a fan of ensemble casts since a lot of my favorite shows these days work that way. It's great when you feel emotionally invested in several characters because then there's never a dull moment. This works especially if the plot is character driven.

Characters with good dynamics and a lot of personality in the kind of story where you can laugh at their teasing and still invest in them and care about them as people appeals to me a lot!

Stories with a lot of tension and unhappiness tend to stress me out, so I prefer more light-hearted stories -- which I think is more a tone thing than a content thing. I guess the "dramedy" balance is important -- I just need those light-hearted moments to tease the characters and just enjoy spending time with them and laughing at their interactions, or else the unhappy moments will be too much for me.

More character based comics than plot based, I personaly like simpler stories with complex characters rather than the opposite.
Slower romance that builds up? I know a lot of comics seem to rush to the good parts and there is a lot of love it first sight stuff too, which isn't bad and I read a lot of comics like that but I'd love it see relationships that build up and take their time (i find interactions between characters before they're actually a couple more interesting than when they do become a couple).
Also more sport themed webcomics, there are so many sport manga but not that many webcomics, so it would be cool to see!

Yesss I totally agree! Sometimes it seems creators are too eager to jump to the dramatic action or romantic relationship, and it falls flat because the characters haven't been developed enough yet. I'm not into the romance genre but even I can get behind a romantic character relationship if it's build up gradually over time.

Something new and daring, something that tries to stick out in style and story. Also a good horror story. I have yet to find really anything that feels more than predictable or full of jump scares. I love psychological horrors, not those terrible "the main character was crazy the whole time!!" but something that makes you think and wonder what was going on. Open ended stuff where the horror is never fully revealed. There is no person or object or monster to place your fears on.

I sort of want something with simple yet silly characters like that of Mr. Men.

But for a more broad idea, I want a story about a romantic relationship which isn't just dumb teen love. I want something about a married couple or older couple who deal with struggles and their love is tested. So a relationship which isn't just people wishing for their first kiss or a virgin wanting to get laid.

I like sensible, down to earth character focused stories. Action and fantasy elements are a plus. I really dislike character drama where it just boils down to once an episode a character gets upset and yells at someone or cries. Also, more romances with interesting/endearing character chemistry please, and less people dreamily staring at each other across the room for 10 chapter before they even talk.

1. stories that start with a foolish and naive protagonist thrown in a new world, so that i get to discover it with them at the same speed

Lol, you can probably attribute that to how most webcomic writers are young people without kids. Write what you know, you know? But I totally agree with you, stories about parents and especially about their relationships with their children can be super interesting.

I'm a young person without kids but I like creating characters who are parents, uncle/aunts, or just people who have to look after kids. I enjoyed watching the Simpsons growing up plus I come from a large diverse family so I like stories about families (Be them traditional or non-traditional).

i really love found families ? i especially loove stories about different monsters and supernatural creatures coming together and forming family units, and i've always been a sucker for the gruff adult character begrudgingly becoming a guardian figure to a younger companion.

i totally agree with @shazzbaa that dramedies are the way to go!! i feel like they're honestly a staple of comics and webcomics especially. i like angst as much as the next person(maybe more) but the stories that really stick with me are the ones with cute, fun moments that develop the characters and make them relatable to the audience

Well, I do like science fiction and fantasy in general. But I like it best when the main focus of the story is on the relationships between the characters and their development. I have to be really invested in the characters to really enjoy the plot. So I guess character driven stories are for me ^^

I like stories that have complex characters, ones that aren't afraid of presenting them as the broken or messed up people they may be. I like stories where the characters are less like 'characters' and more like 'people'.

Stories with overall messages or themes are also something I appreciate - that way, I have something to take away from it.
