What got you into making webcomics?

I had a lot of characters floating around in my head and realized I couldn't just go on without giving some of them a story or a world to live in of some sort. I like drawing, and the fact that I could immediately share it online and possibly get feedback was enough for me to want to start a comic.

I come from a family of book lovers, and I was encouraged to read from a young age. The more I read, the more I started to come up with my own ideas, until I started to try writing for myself. I've also been drawing since childhood, but I'd never really put the two together beyond occasionally drawing characters from my stories. As a teen, I I started reading manga as it first became widely available in UK book shops, and I got into reading webcomics as well, and I was inspired to try it myself. It took some time before I started to take it seriously, but now I can't really stop.

Well, when I kinda flunked out of my college courses, I ended up with an epiphany that I wasn't feeling passionate about school anymore. The first year was great, because I was learning new stuff and making cool things, but in the second year, there was so much pressure to succeed and to make an impression in the industry and the expectations were astronomical... I just ended up drowning.

That's when I figured out that I wanted to make something that was exclusively mine, and that others could hopefully enjoy? I thought a webcomic would be the best direction to achieve that.

I pretty much got in to webcomics during high school. I used to create these random character drawing sheets during lunch time when there was nothing better to do, so after realizing how many character sheets I created, I got an idea. I wanted to place them all in a story! So I created my first comic. It was a pretty cheesy comic thinking back, but it's where I got my true start.

I've made up stories in my head for as long as I can remember, and late in high school I decided I wanted to do something with that. I started out just writing things out, but got into art and drawing in college because I wanted to visually bring things to life. That just naturally led to wanting to make comics for me, and doing webcomics seems like the most accessible way to get your stuff in front of eyes or at least just put it somewhere.

Also this comic by Evan Dahm had a major impact on me and helped spark my interest.

I don't do webcomics to be honest... I mean, yeah, it's a comic and it's on the web. But I do it in printing format so I don't know.
Anyway, it all started when I bought my first how to draw manga book when I was 12, I learnt the basics of manga, I did some really crap stories and manga comics and stuff. That was just a hobby, and not even that sometimes.
It was not until I read a manga series called Bakuman that I decided to follow the barely possible dream of becoming a manga author in Japan and started to get serious about doing this. It has been a bit more than 2 years since then and here I am.

I've been making shitty comics since I was in 5th grade. Out of most of the comics I've ever made either have been destroyed by shit like liquids or getting stepped on. At this point I make them as a hobby.

I loved reading comics and manga so the next course of action was to make my own lmao. Also I'm not exactly great at writing prose and I am slightly less shitty at drawing... it took a long time to make a webcomic/manga but hey, I got here lmao. I went with the online route since I don't know how to publish it here (Malaysia) lol and I just liked the online feel of it... getting to interact with readers directly is good ohohohoh.

After discovering manga was a thing, I thought I could try to make something myself.
I first uploaded my comics on dA, but then I found inkblazers, which I thought would have been a great place to post my stuff (though, we all know what happened there, the tragedy.)
Most of the inkblazers people seeked refuge here, and I'm happy with this place.

I watched a TON of tv when I was a kid and I had always liked drawing so when I was about 7 or so I started drawing my own stories as they would play out like a cartoon in my head. I've continued to draw comics ever since.

My husband loved and worked in comics and it looked like fun and here I am.

I've always liked day-dreaming and cartoons and stuff.
In around 2nd grade of elementary, I copied a classmate of mine who was making handmade books with her friend and started making my own. At this point I kind of wanted to be a writer (tho even then every page had an illustration haha).
Later on I started wanting to animate.
I soon came to the conclusion that I ain't got the patience for that.
AND SO YEAH making comics seems like it was bound to happen. I can't think of any specific catalysts. It just happened because I had stories I wanted to share and words aren't enough (I'm not willing to leave a lot of stuff up to a reader's imagination, basically).

It was kinda weird for me. I never actually expected to be into making webcomics since I get bored of projects pretty easily. I originally set up to just make an intro for my comic, but it was so much fun that I just kept going with it and I've been sticking with it since ^^

I started mine as fanfiction, then wanted to draw my own OC, then I started making a comic to develop THAT OC. That's the summary of my 10 years life. >..<

Since gotten into contracting, but I still love my webcomic and sometimes look forward to getting laid off...

I got back into webcomics, found this website and decided I needed a good excuse to engage with the community. So I started a comic based off a parody of my life and half a year later I have absolutely no clue what I am doing.

The fact that I could take the out there stories that pop up in my head and actually show them off somewhere was the biggest reason. Also made the dream of comic-ing for a living without having to work for any huge company slightly more possible.... slightly.

I wanted to tell stories, but I'm a bad writer for novels, and I'm a good drawer. Then friend happened to make stories and wanted me to join. I said yes and now I'm still drawing my webcomic.

When I was a kid, I used to fastidiously redraw Transformers comic books with Spanish translations to share with my friends back in Panama. Then when I was in high school I came up with my own superhero (a really lame one, it was basically half-joke but then it got more serious as I went) and I swear I drew 50 stories of that superhero (Punk Spike was his name, I still laugh) on notebook paper (!) and shared it with my friends, I even got a friend of mine inspired and he drew his own and then we would have crossovers.

So that was the end of it for me, I tried novel writing and short fiction writing, until just a few months ago I lost my job... and I realized I really wanted to do a comic book. I started practicing drawing again, and I'm about as good as I was in high school (which isn't saying much) and I am getting better and better I think. I came up with my new comic and now I'm actually giving it a try. I know it will take years but why not right? Glad to meet all of you and find you all have similar stories!
