It took a year and a half of rewriting the same short story to finally get the best version of it, and that involved cutting so much and refining everything else.
To give a bit of background, I sent a user a message about collabing together for a short story like 24-30 pages in length, and they agreed under the condition of writing it in 10. My stories always ended up getting longer than anticipated so I asked for references and basically got their direct advice of cutting everything down to the absolute minimum and that just stuck with me. It needed to lmao
The biggest improvement here is efficiency in pacing. The original version of the story would've been two, maybe three times as long to the version I'm aiming for now. Other improvements involve making characters more sensible, setting the scenes better, an overhaul of the lore, and even just.. wordiness. We don't talk in full pragraphs anymore yayyy
