What inspired your characters’ names?

Naming is my weakest point in my comic....my character Rip Vykirson really started out as a Sonic OC decades ago so I just went with Rip Raptor (because he was fast...and...a dinosaur...inspired right?!)
His current name does have a tiny bit more put into it. The last name is taken because he was adopted by a character named Vykir, so he's Vykirson.

The first name is an allusion to something he will be doing later on in the series:
Ripping down oppressive regimes and corrupt officials from their high places. So I have Rip.
Rip Vykirson.

I though Ariana and Adrian were fitting names for the twins because the names are similar sounding and one means light colored and the other dark.
Keira, my bubbly ray of blonde sunshine, has a name that means dark-haired. But I still think her name is great for her.
Reaver is named that because she is a force of nature that will drive everyone around her to madness.

1.)Alice (Named after Alice - from Alice in Wonderland) Webster (Like Webster dictionary - since she loves words)

2.)Tirla (Named after Tirla from Pegasus in Flight) Chalka ( Named after Jack L. Chalker - but a bit more feminine with the A at the end)

mine aren't really all too deep.

for Erena I originally wanted her name to have the word "red" in it so my first choice was "Ereda". I then did some research and found out that it was the name to a location in a pretty well known game, almost had a crisis and eventually changed it to Erada, and then Erena.

for Xenor I wanted a name that was similar to "Xeno"... so I added an r. lol

and then for bugbot I had "flybot" as my first choice which could have easily been confused with bot fly. I was going to name him so due to the face that he can fly, but I then changed it to bugbot since it was more fitting and matches his buglike-ness

Short version:
Heathcliff, after emily bronte's Wuthering Heights.
Baelfire, after the bonfires during the celebration of Beltane

Long version:
Brothers Heathcliff and Baelfire are early on foundlings in the story, identified by the society they live in as outsiders with an unknown heritage. Yet i wanted their names to suggest consistency and familial roots that likens to celtic or northern European descent (even in an AU). Both names consist of two parts, each one a visual description that is either natural or earthy.

This is also true of their surname - Blackburn - because they were from a people that identified themselves as children of their parents. For instance, Heathcliff, son of Blackburn - but overtime shortened to Heathcliff Blackburn to fit in with the society they coexist with.

Random name generators and anything that rolls of the tongue well. And puns if I can.
For the main characters of my comic(https://tapas.io/series/The-Black-Belt-Society-) I picked the names at random: Elliot, Tyler, and Lara. The goddesses' names were a little more involved.
Each goddess represents a different element: water, fire, earth, and air.
Water-Otar (Otar kind of sounds like water, granted I pronounce it like Oh-tar as opposed to Ah-ter)
Fire-Ire (Ire is fire without the F)
Earth-Urt (Urt sounds like earth without the -th sound)
Air-Ira (I just moved the i in air to the end)
I have a planned character in this comic whose name is a pun and another character whose name is supposed to be a hint for things to come.
I think it's cool to have character with a deeper meaning to their name, but names with no inherent meaning work well too.

i have a few ways of making up names for characters when writing stories.

i have a book of baby names
i sometimes use mixed names from graves stones (creepy i know)
reading movie credits and mixing up names is another way.

yes and i like to think of it as a way of keeping people alive in a creepy way but i can be odd that way. i used this for a vampire once.

I do a combination of things. Sometimes I just have a name I really like or combine names. Sometimes I have a color for a character and look at paint color names of similar colors to get the name. But one of my more common methods is I end up typing randomly. It's usually gibberish, but on rare occasions something good comes out that I'm willing to use like Lukansoll.

My characters are all based on people I know in real life for the most part. I've either kept their name (after asking for permission of course) or changed it slightly. For the characters I've made up, I used common names used in the Las Vegas area (My story is based in Vegas) I also have a couple of characters named after "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" characters- just because I'm a nerd.

This is Humphrey, a miniature robot who can change into a music box. He is from my fancomic set in the Overwatch universe called "Overwatch - Lost Light".

At first I called him Humphrey just because it seemed to fit his design. But after some research, I actually found out that Humphrey is a name of German origin meaning "Peaceful warrior", which fits his pacifist personality beautifully. (Also having German origin helps since his music box casing is from the neighbouring country of Switzerland).

His name was eventually extended to Humphrey D'Acorn Botgart because puns. (And also D'Acorn is a reference to his music box casing being made from oak).

My character's names are from very random inspirations.

Main character is Zerwan, it's from the god Zurvan.
Hlaluu is from TES3:Morrowind
Leelah (=Leila) is an Arabic name chosen to both alliterate and assonate with Hlaluu.
Tsegerl is invented, but I was thinking of Tsetseg, a Mongolian girl's name.

The cities/regions have even more random names, supposed to illustrate both geographical and temporal (successive) cultural influences.

I have a strong but fluctuant obsession for the Sumerian and Akkadian languages. But because Sumerian is a language isolate and completely useless in everyday life, I really, really don't want to give in. I'm struggling since years to avoid spending any time on that. Akkadian is not off limits per se (I allow myself study time for anything IE or Semitic because some languages have some practical interest in my life, although it's pretty much an excuse) but well, you know, Sumerian influence, bla bla, that would really be an big, lame, excuse. I don't think any knowledge of Akkadian would improve my Arabic haha
