What is a good rating on Webtoon?

There's a rating system on Webtoon, and my rating is 7.83. I'm pretty sure that's a bad rating, but I've heard that oftentimes people on Webtoon will get salty if your comic is better than theirs and will rate it poorly. Not sure if that's the case for me though, because then they would rate it one star and my rating would be much worse.

If there's something you guys can catch that I can improve on to raise my rating, could you tell me?

I would just write more and over time the rating will go up as more people rate. There's people that rate really harshly, on metrics I don't understand, comparing comics made by one person with people that have a whole team making their comic (I rate 10 when I do rate because...hell, it's hard to write a comic. Like I just gave you a 10 because like yo, even if you don't make something perfect, it's a free webcomic and I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.) So some people won't give a 10....ever because of some ethical reason, and like...ratings are bunk anyway. It's only a matter of time before Webtoon will get rid of them because...what's the point? Everyone likes different things.

But like I already gave you a review a while back so I don't need to give you more advice than that post haha--you're doing fine. It just takes time and over time you improve naturally.

What's even the point of the rating system? I don't think it places me any higher in the canvas section when I upload.

Exactly. It does nothing. It's like an old relic from an old time. I dunno if readers even care.

1.5 because that means your comic is so good it threatens so many contest-goers/fans of other comics who participated in contest they downrate you to the oblivion for their own pathetic comics to win (even if you don't participate in the contest)

Something a little weird just happened. A few minutes after you rated it up, "someone" rated down to 7.25

That happens. I'm extremely self-conscious of my own artistic capabilities and panicked when my rating dropped to 7.80 a few months ago. I made a thread about it because I thought I had made a mistake and people hated me all of a sudden. But no, the ratings system is just poorly regulated and any petty individual can go and give you a 1 star rating, which can be detrimental to new creators who haven't accrued many ratings yet.

My current Webtoon rating is 9.18 but it's bound to fluctuate over time. So I just have to remember that when you don't have many readers yet, ratings are very sensitive to change. I'm certain your rating is going to change with time, too.

In general I'm not so fond of webtoon anyways. The only reason I'd use it over Tapas is that it is a bigger platform, and that's it

When I first started posting on Webtoons and I had only a handful of readers, it was between 9 and 10. Then as it was growing, the rating plummeted to something like a 5.60. I've just been recovering from that ever since, I think it's a 7.65 right now.

The webtoon rating system is just plain stupid.
I used to care a lot about the rating. At some point my rating went from 7 to 6 and I could not stop thinking about why it dropped. My comic was improving, so why would the rating drop?

Don't think too much about it though. It doesn't matter at all.

I've gotten a 5.5 on an old webtoon before :') It gave me good reason to stop that
series though because my heart wasn't in it so I guess the readers could see that too.

Oh them webtoon readers... So brave to rate 1 star because they're anonymous. XD When there's a contest you'll get bombarded with one stars even if you're not part of it. I don't pay attention to it too much now both as a creator and as a reader. I would see some comics rated so low and yet I enjoyed reading them.

I can understand the idea behind implementing this as a feature. It's similar to rating movies or books, it gives people a general impression if the content would be worth their while.

That said, just like movies and books, that system can definitely be abused, or not accurate to one's taste. (I've read highly rated books that I hated, watched low rated movies that I loved, etc.)

It can for sure be disheartening for the creator on the receiving end though. I would just do your best to ignore it, and just stick with your comic. If you want to try improving things when and where you can, go for it, but like others said, it's a free comic that you're sharing, you have no obligation to do anything for your audience. (Not to mention, those who typically rate one star are probably not your target audience anyway, so it's likely not worth your time bothering to please them.)

Oh, the webtoons rating... When I first started publishing there with my 2018 Webtoon Contest entry, it was around 8.50 and I thought it was a terrible rating. I spent way too much energy worrying about it haha.

But yea, some people tend to abuse the rating system. I've stopped paying attention to it a long time ago, so my response is like "oh, 9.46. whatever"
