Sorry, just gonna derail for a second.
Wouldn't this apply to most if not all regions? Not just Japan? Why are only Japanese artists logged under one umbrella "style"? Isn't that kind of rude to the artists who have varying degrees of experience and education?
Soooo you're saying because the art is "pointy" all these Japanese cartoons have the same style?
Well no duh, their language reads differently from ours, their culture is different. It's only natural that their storytelling and page layouts would be different. I never said their comics were the same as ours to begin with, I said that anime was inspired by western animation. Which it was, Osamu Tezuka, the pioneer of anime and creator Astro Boy was influenced by Disney. Anime and manga are two different things.
My whole argument is that anime/manga is not a style, and that style is a product of the artist. Not a comparison of western versus Japanese.
