What is the best genre for your comic

So just wondering like any community some genres tend to be more popular on certain platforms. I was wondering if anyone had any statistics for Tapastics genres as well as maybe their competitor line web toons. I was also wondering what happens to stats if you change your comics genre do you lose any stats by doing this if not I think this could potentially help or hurt your views. I tend to write cross genre stories that can fall in many broadly in multiple genres so I would like to know where I should be putting them to find the most success. Below are my current comics I listed Vigilance under Super Heroes and I listed Drakon Forge under Fantasy. Both could be easily listed under Action or Comedy or to be honest a few others as well. Looking forward to getting some discussion on this so I can make a better informed decision on whether I should adjust my genre listing on tapastic and or line webtoons.

Vigilance

Drakon Forge

Drakon Forge is an Action / Adventure / Comedy about a group of young travelers setting off on a quest to fulfill their dreams.

The story follows Aidan Keith and his quest to find answers to what
happened to his father. The sub plot is about each of the young heroes
pursuing their dreams, Aidan wants to be the strongest warrior, Sylvia
wants to be the best blacksmith and Felicia wants to be the most
knowledgeable mage.

From the plot synopsis you gave I'd say Vigilance sounds like Action comic and Drakon Forge is indeed something between action/adventure. However I don't think I can help you with any tips on what genre is best for popularity boost. My own comics are in pretty specific genres so I haven't had a change to try out and see the popularity differences. But I did have problem with choosing a genre, before Mystery category was created.

Numb
Mystery/drama/horror

This was tricky for me, since the comic is long term project and I update it one page per week and it takes a while to set up the scene in it. In the future there'll be clear horror/thriller elements, but it's not so in-your-face with it that I felt I'd disappoint readers if I put it under horror genre, when it's note purely that. Then I tried drama, and that also felt like cheating, because I knew that eventually shit will hit the fan and that may not be what casual drama readers want. So when the mystery popped up in genre selections I jumped right on it.

Plot is following: Levi's plans on rehabilitation on a old friendship goes under hiatus, when he gets in an accident while trying to save a strange street crosser and ends up hospitalized. On top of that it seems that no one else saw this crosser, only Levi. With this bringing strain to his friendships alongside old memories, there's something much more sinister lurking closer to them.

Little Tales
Mystery/Drama/horror/Thriller

This is collection of different shorts, but I decided the genre on the behalf of the majority of the stories.

So I changed the genres to both of these in the midway and for me the effects were only positive. I felt like I managed to find readers more easily. Also it doesn't hurt that the list of comics in under mystery is still relatively small.

I also heard that it used to be possible to put your comic under many genres, but then there was problem with people who harvested them all to get more popular etc. Aside from that, success usually comes slowly with webcomics, so just be patient and be devoted to your update times and you'll readers will find you. I'd have to agree with niinasalmelin. The synopses for Vigilance and Drakon Forge sound like they should be at home within the action/adventure genre, and unless you had an established fan base before coming to Tapastic, there isn't much you could do to boost popularity. (Except for making a good comic of course, which by the look of both series so far, you likely have nothing to worry about )

I had a similar problem with categorizing my series; in fact, I still have have a problem trying to increase my stories popularity.

Age of the Atroximals
The conflicts between humanity and mutants, known as Atroximals, spanning throughout future generations, with stories illustrated by different artists.

At first, I wasn't sure what genre to describe it as in general. It has monsters [horror] but all the stories take place in the future [sci-fi]. I could decide between the two for some time and finally asked others for help. Many said sci-fi and looking closer at it I had to agree, since the constant theme that connects all of them is the future. Monsters do appear but some stories aren't written to disturb and unease the reader. What may help you decide on a genre is that have to think, "What is the constant that connects each episode?"

For trying to increase popularity, I tried writing on forums, posting updates on Twitter and Facebook, paid advertising, giving each story its own page so new episodes alert potential subscribers, etc... and so far I only have 60 subs total since last year as I write this. It's going to be a long road to 500 but if you keep updating regularly, upkeep/gradually improve quality, and keep everything interesting, more people may take interest.

As stated above already, Vigilance does describe more of an action/adventure genre comic, as does Drakon Forge. I have no idea what happens if you suddenly decide to change your comic's genre. I'd imagine that not much would change because there are already tons of comics in any given genre and I find that regardless of your comic's genre, you'll still get the most traffic to your comic after an update (based on my experience at least!)

Cosmos Song

I was actually hoping I could pick more than one genre when I first joined Tapastic, as my comic sort of fits in to more than one since it's a Fantasy/Romance story. But since the fantasy aspect triumphs over the romance (which only appears later in the story) I chose Fantasy.
