What is the goal of your main character?

To be free sounds like a good goal to me
In a slice of life you can have changing goals from story / episode to episode which
makes it a very interesting genre. You can have a romantic goal in one episode
(ask the girl who works at the coffee shop for a date) and in the next episode
you can have the goal not to get fired at your day job

The one I´m working on right now:
The main character wants to rescue his dog which has been kidnapped by aliens

I feel like I should only consider 'to be free' a goal if freedom is a change in the character's status quo, which in my case, it's not. So it's just a wish imo

Very true! I guess I just saw goal (singular) in your OP and assumed you wanted the overarching goal of the whole story, where there really isn't one. But he does very much have short term goals (solving the problem in each arc)!

Interesting ... I guess some slice-of-life stories do have a well-defined overarching goal. Are you worried about keeping that chill slice-of-life pace and not letting it become action or something, without dragging things out too long where the audience feels like you're writing filler to prevent the plot from being resolved?

My main character is Dasch Karde.

He has social anxiety and also doesn't remember anything from his childhood. His only 2 friends are a grade above him in school and when they graduate they are moving away leaving him all alone. However, he gets a letter from a mysterious person that promises to bring back his memories and reunite him with old friends and it becomes his goal to get back his memories and reunite with his old friends in order to avoid being alone after his current friends move away.

Thea's goal is to get information about her own child that was taken away from her. Whether she will want to be a mother or decide to leave the child where they are (or if the child is even living) is another issue altogether.

Noth's goal isn't super clear right now. He's just living life the best he can, but there'll be a more clear goal in the future that involves getting acknowledgement - of some sort - from his full orc mother who has been really neglectful of him.

Literally speaking, her goal is to undermine the authority of the police and protect civilians. Her motivation was the fire bombing of her town by corrupt cops. Under the guise of being a repair person, Jules rides around coming to the aid of the helpless.

But if we're saying metaphorically speaking I'm gonna go with "heart of gold meets will of pure spite."
