What is the most boring / fun thing about making comics?

Right! Characters are always fun but backgrounds are (no matter how cool they are when done) always a bit tedious ^^;

My favourite part about making comics is coming up with the story, sketching it and seeing my characters come to life. The boring part? Lineart. Definitely lineart for me.

Youtube can only entertain me so much. I even washed the dishes in between, to do something different. And I really don't like washing dishes.

Completely agree! Laying down flats is mind numbing! On the bright side, I'm usually happy to be able to thoughtlessly do the flats after a day of work, because I don't have the brain power to draw. Still, its so boring. I marathon netflix and youtube the whole time. Started listening to books on tape too.

But the most fun is probably the initial designing, painting, and when it comes together well!

Fun stuff:
-designing characters
-making up character personalities, relationships, quirks, etc.
-thumbnailing, doodling
-drafting
-HAVING COMPLETE CONTROL OVER EVERYTHING
-thinking about the plot in general
-writing interesting plotlines

Boring stuff:
-Lineart (sometimes)
-blocking (well it's not so bad for me since I have a really minimal color palette, but still)
-speech bubbles
-BACKGROUNDS

Something i started to de recently, because gosh i can't stand the painstaking process of doing flats, is listening to podcasts namely TAZ because I've heard so many people talk about it and for the most part it's helped. Except when someone makes a joke or there's just laughter in general then i have to go back and fix stuff. it's like those movie scenes where big sis is putting on makeup when suddenly loud noises!

I think my favorite part is the writing and world-building as well as working on certain dialogue parts. Best thing would probably be character development because I love building a base and then letting them evolve. Lineart is the worst.

I like drawing/working out panels. and jokes. im a very inbetweens person. Like most folk like oh ive got the start and the middle and the end. and these big events. how do i get to each event???
im like tiny bits of personal development for each individual at a time. the bits in betweeeeeen. get right in there.

lining is so freaking laborious for me. like its gOOD when it goes right. but those days where youre never at the right angel. kill me dead.

For me, I think the most boring part is story-boarding. I'm the type of person who NEEDS to have at least a good amount of the story flesh out before I get into working on panels and whatnot.

Sometimes, I can get this weird perfectionist attitude about it, and I'll rip out whole pages if I don't like where the story board is going. And sometimes, I'm like "screw it, I'll figure it out as I go"

The most fun I have is in the earlier stages and in the later stages: outlining and paneling. I am a freak for writing everything out and trying to see how many twists and turns I can add into my stories. And then just drawing all of that out in the final product makes it that much more amazing for me.

Inking is a grind for me. I get so anxious to finish it drives me nuts.

But I think it's the way I work. I'll sketch out an entire story or chapter and then keep repeating myself. I usually use that repetition for editing but I find that to be very frustrating...

I always enjoy scripting, since it's the root of the comic's story. Including dialogue and action. I then doubly enjoy preliminary sketches and inking.

Colouring tends to be a chore though. It takes so long and is such meticulous work. Not to mention pallet picking is super tough for me somehow. But recently I changed my approach and technique and it's helped some.

I think the must fun for me in making The Changeling's Sister is lineart and touching it up, and rendering the colours. The must boring: Flat colours. it's a snorefest.

The most fun thing has always been having the initial idea for a strip as well as the world building for a more involved story. I really enjoy the project when it's essentially still in its theoretical stage, heh.

It gets boring as soon as I have to turn any sketches into fleshed out artworks; that's when it becomes work to me, unfortunately I still haven't gotten to the point where I can enjoy making art for its own sake.
