What do you think is the most fun / most boring thing in the process of putting a comic episode together?
For me with my comic ( https://tapastic.com/series/magicadvisor) it is defiantly the most fun to draw the characters themselves and the most boring is probably background even though I am always really pleased with the pages that have detailed backgrounds. Like this one:
But designing funny expressions is still the best
I enjoy drawing the concept, the initial sketch the most followed by colouring and speech bubbles design. I don’t think I find anything particularly boring? Maybe scripting. I mean, backgrounds are frustrating but they’re not boring by any means - it challenges me in a good way. But I don’t think I’ve been making comics long enough to start getting bored of making them.
I find it a blast when I know what I want to draw and it turns out like I wanted! Though on the other hand its fun to sometimes explore the drawing as I make it. For example, I normally find backgrounds tedious on the verge of daunting, but for this particular image I began to have fun! After I had the buildings blocked in, I got the freedom to design how the trees died, add an extinguished bonfire, people being chased, etc. The world came alive as put my effort into it. It isn't the best image I've ever done but I had the most fun creating it! The boring part of making comics for me is getting stuck on something. I work long hours alone so when I get stuck, it gets boring. I can spend an hour just trying to find the right marker color (or colors) on something silly, like a suit. It takes a lot of mental perseverance to get past times like that. I spent what felt like forever trying to decide what this guy's suit color should be. It's pretty embarrassing... BTW, this guy will show up in Whetstone in a few weeks.
I find thumbnailing and planning out panel/word bubble placement to be the most boring part of the process. It's quite often that the process literately puts me to sleep. It's just that I've usually already brainstormed the story part out, and just doing the technical part of setting it up is so draining.
My favorite part is just the drawing part and more recently coloring, my black and white pages especially.
For me I love the art and story process but unfortunately I can't stand bubbling and actually typing dialogue no matter how much I fiddle with it, it never looks right to me 😦
My fav parts are adding screentones and drawing funny or cute scenes or close up's of the characters
My least fav parts are.. obviously hands/feet and sometimes sketching certain poses that just won't turn out the way I want them too =.=
for me the most boring is inking and the most enjoyable bit is writing to be honest i wish i had the money to hire people then all i would do is write. but talking to fans and getting feedback makes it all worth while
I have recently started enjoying the coloring process of Numb more and more! It's so relaxing. Also drawing is always fun to do. Most boring would be scanning and doing all the photoshop things, adding speech bubbles and text and so on.
I don't mind any part of making my comic? It's all pretty enjoyable, just a tad bit tedious.
If I had to choose the most boring, I'd say sketching the page just because of how I sketch.
My fave part is lining and coloring though.
My favorite is writing the dialogue and script!
The thing that puts me to sleep is coloring.
The things I find boring:Writing a scriptStoryboards/thumbnailssketching the whole thing on the final.I dread using perspective even though I have grids to make it easier.
Things I find fun: InkingAdding tonesSound effects and text.
So basically I'm only having fun when I'm almost done.
The boring part of making my pages? Getting motivated...once I'm going, I'm good, but getting myself in a mood/zone to draw/ink/color is a pain. Secondly would be drawing sometimes...that's why when I am in a zone and I'm cranking out good stuff, I push myself to get a lot done- coz I dont always be in that zone everyday.
The fun part is inking, coloring(except laying down flats some days), and lettering.
I find the colouring process extremely boring, I use the magic wand and polygon tool method which can be very time consuming, especially with fiddly bit of the line art. Also sound effects, when you can't quite put sounds into words.
I have a lot of fun thinking about what I'm going to do with a page, laying down the sketch layers.
I enjoy the whole drawing process, but I especially like the shading and highlighting stage, because that's where I can make my drawings more vivid. The part about making comics that I hate most, however, is typing the words in. I dunno, but is there anything exciting about typing letters? xD
For me the most fun thing about making my comic is the fight scenes since I really love action illustrationThen the most boring thing to do when making my comic is inking though when done I normally like admiring the ink jobTHE LAST SAMURAI
I love inking, especially big black areas or architecture or details. I like coloring, but my comic isn't in color, so that part is a bit dull.
The part I hate is definitely lettering, and for some reason I get really caught up about measuring page margins and panels. I never want to do it, so I have to do huge batches at a time.
Love:*I enjoy reading the new scripts to the pages the very most. LOVE to read what happens next from the writers.*I really enjoy paneling with the writer of Goblins of Razard, I like to see her vision sort of come to life, and going back and forth and working on it together. *I like inking*Drawing backgrounds (I'm weird, don't judge me)
Not so fun:*Doing the initial sketch before inking. My brain sometimes has a hard time getting started.*Fill in flats for the base colors (blah, which is why someone else does that usually, I whine about it too much)
@stephensharpe707 I use the polygon lasso/paint bucket when laying down flats. It's gotten easier since I started using a tablet. Used to be a real pain when I was coloring with a mouse.
@BlackMantaStudios @alaingrey @dragonfly_kites I onno...maybe I'm just a font/lettering junkie. LOVE the lettering process.
Love:-brainstorming story ideas-writing a script/thumbnailing
Boring:-Inking/Lining (it's the most time consuming and if I am having a bad day, it comes out all weird)

I don't really hate any aspect of making a comic. My favorite part is probably thumbnailing and penciling, though I do like coloring.
I do find inking and writing dialogue to be less interesting then the other parts. If it counts, the most boring aspect is promoting. It's so time consuming and I'd rather be drawing.
