Sounds easy, but it isn´t.
What is the biggest flaw of your character?
What is his power?
And how is it connected to the story?

Evangeline:
Strengths: Intelligence on and off the battle field and very agile. She is able to see things others don't, being very observant is one of her best abilities. She is a nice person, but she is often very careful and looks to do her duties before anything else.
Weaknesses: She is loyal, which comes to be great most times, but she will die with those she supports no matter what happens. She also is very stubborn, which, again, can be a good thing, but her mind is unwavering and her opinions are still. The biggest weakness she has, however, is her amnesia. No one knows what happened, but she is often stricken by lack of knowledge in her past and that leads to missing gaps in basic knowledge in the kingdom of Collosicus.
My main character, Xepholen, is a high-class criminal who has been eluding the military for 3 years. He seems to be able to handle himself just fine. Being a Wastelander majority of his life, he is used to living off the land and able to handle any threat that gets in his way. He seems rational, calm, collected, and fearless. Until his younger brother, Zalken, is put in danger all rationality is thrown off the window! Xepholen will go at any length to keep his brother safe, even if that mean self-sacrifice.
Oh my, how do I pick only one flaw? She has so many cx
Meet Kestrel, she's a thief and main character in my comic.
Her biggest flaw: the denial is strong with this one. Kestrel ignores or simply denies things that would ruin her self image and her vision of the world. This includes both nature of the world around her and things she has done herself. From very small details to serious things, she lives in a bubble of her lies in which she wholeheartly believes herself. Well, it's going to catch up with her sooner or later.
Runner-up flaws: her social skills (while she can easily talk with others, she has an empathy of a brick, plus she's very conflicted between 'people are so naive and stupid, I don't need anyone and I'll just use them' and 'I actually like people'), she's also very greedy and impulsive.
Let's say that her biggest weakness is herself.
As for her strengths, she can quickly notice small details- opened window, hidden doors, missing objects or that something another characters said connects to a bigger picture.
She also has a newly-obtained power of making people asleep, though currently she's using it mostly to avoid conversations she doesn't want to have.
For the story it´s best when you can connect the weakness/flaw directly with the story.
There are 2 great movie/story examples for that:
Groundhog day and Tootsie
Both protagonists have one central and defined flaw. Tootsie, the way he treats women and then
he experiences how men treat women himself and that makes a change.
I think people want to read something like that in a story
Strength: even when my mc Grimnir's actively trying not to, he still cares for other people. This can be a weakness too, but I think it's the best part of him, so I count it as a strength.
Weakness: he always looks for shortcuts, quick easy ways to archive goals. He cares more about having immediate satisfaction for his needs than being sensible and see the big picture. And because he always looks for the "quick and easy way", he's not able to deal with feelings like guilt, grief and sorrow (hence, the bad drinking habit).
I´m happy to read this and I know that feeling. I have friends and family but no one to talk to about the plot,
I think one reason is that it is boring for them and I don´t want to bore them. They want the finished
product and not my thoughts of character development or my struggles with hating the story I wrote
You guys really some it up pretty well when it comes to having no one to talk about the plot QwQ A whole-hearted thank you for the thread! :3
Okay, so for strengths, Josi is pretty perceptive and catches onto things faster than her peers, as well as curious, very open to learn new things! She‘s also very loyal and conscientious when it comes to the team - which is why she‘ll end up becoming its leader one day and certainly tries her best on seeing her tasks through to the end.
Going into her weaknesses; even though she is perceptive, that doesn‘t mean she mentions what she noticed her right away, instead she overthinks a lot, which ends up in her bottling a lot of things up. Also, since she‘s young, she‘s can be naïve & very immature (as it can be seen in chapter 1.3, being a little stubborn towards her best friend), as well as obnoxious sometimes. Same goes for the curiosity, which gets her in all sort of dangerous situations throughout the story.
For the less psychological & more physical part, she doesn‘t have the best stamina (which also has a reason which I won‘t spoil right now), which means that she tires out a lot after fighting and once she gets to use her true power (which has been sealed for the reason of being that powerful), she‘ll drain herself like a broken phone battery within a short amount of time over and over.
It‘s none of the 7 basic elements, being fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, light & darkness, but one of 2 unique powers, being the ability to manipulate space - the counterpart being time manipulation
She‘ll learn to open portals and use them to fire energy beams, by overlapping them or create own pocket dimensions, etc.
Since it is that overpowered, she‘ll come to fear her own power and what it is connected to, which is basically the main conflict of Part III and a reason why she‘s gonna go through major changes in Part IV!
Oh yeah, that's a pretty big weakness. Though for me it's more of a result of her other flaws combined with poor decisions (not only hers, she's still young and people around her should had known better), so that's why I didn't place it as a main weakness. Later in the story she regrets a lot of those, especially after realising what she could've had, but also feels that's it's already too late for her to change and is quite conflicted.
It was easier to write the character development for her that way, like, having to overcome those obstacles (some of which she puts them there herself - for example the thing I put in the spoiler just now) and of course, the plot being - as stated in the description of the comic - her becoming the most legendary leader the team Sky Diver ever had ^^
There's a lot, actually, that I can't spoil, due to not being relevant to Saga 1 (Origins) or taking away too much for it, if any of my readers find my forum replies xD
Okay! Here's my babyboi Toby!
His strengths:
He is very enthusiastic and nice. He is very outgoing and often approached people himself. He has no problem taking on responsibilities and helping anyone in any way he can. He is very loyal and has a strong thrive to make people around him happy.
His Weaknesses:
He can be quite the burden with his hyperactive non-stop talking and moving. Sometimes he acts reckless by doing something without thinking about possible consequences. Many times his drive to help everyone around him can make him neglect his own wellbeing and health. He has a lot of self-doubts and often stumbles over his own words.
Follow his silly lil story <3
