Hey, I don't know who is in charge of the little "get more ink by doing these apps" part of the app, but I really, really don't appreciate that one of those things is to "Make an NFT and send it to a friend" in order to gain ink.

NFT's are an unregulated marketplace full of scam artists, and considering the age of a lot of our readers (some are hella young) I don't want them encouraged to participate with the scams happening in the NFT space right now (which I don't really need to link to, we've all seen the 2 hour "line goes up" documentary on it on youtube). That and Opensea has openly admitted that since they made minting free, 80% of NFTs created have been made out of stolen art. So, children are going to think "Sweet, I'll just copy paste something I like to get free ink" which is exactly the big problem that the art community has been trying to stop.

I'm very opposed to how the NFT marketplace is doing business right now, and so are a lot of the artist community, and I am pretty upset to see this here in the list of the Tapas offerwall. Although I know it is possible that you guys don't actually decide what offers are offered. Overall it's a bad look, and I personally would feel better if it were taken off the list.

I absolutely second your concern.
NFTs should not be tolerated around.

Would it be funny if the screenshots of Tapas own premium series itself were ended up on the NFT market (Maybe that way, they'd act faster. It can potentially harm them too.)

The ads sounds scammy as hell too, and for a very little amount of ink

I wouldn't trust much of this type of market, I prefer to keep my reserves.

Hope it's just because tapas is using some 3rd party service for those offers and no one really looks at them and not a sign of them supporting this nonsense

yeah, this is what I assume is happening, but they should still be able to have some control over it once they realize it's happening.

Tapas uses Tapjoy for these rewards (a third party platform with an unfortunately similar name). Therefore, it’s really out of Tapas’s hands on this matter :pensive:

No, they can do something about it, and they really need to. I've already seen people on twitter freaking out about it, because it appears like Tapas is encouraging NFT's, and even heard people saying "oh, is Tapas turning your comics into NFT's now." I even saw one person saying "should I remove my comic from tapas???" because like--this is such a big problem in the art community right now they gotta get Tapjoy to just turn that one off. It's not a good look.

Like I'm assuming Tapjoy cycles stuff through for the offers and is going off of trending tags. But...do other people know htat?

NFTs in general are completely nuts and I can't believe it's even a thing. Technology has brought us a lot of amazing revolutions and then there's stuff like this, "metaverse", deep fakes (which people use for gross things), etc. NFTs are a major reason I don't trust certain sites. Having my work stolen is something that worries me.

I think it is very misleading to say Tapas has absolutely no say in it. If ads contained NSFW content they would be able to say no (for example) so why not NFTs? They know it may (will) drive people away so they must protect their business. I can't imagine Tapas signing a contract that goes "you won't be able to contest any reward we choose for your app".

SO yeah, they ought to do something about it. This is unacceptable considering all the controversies about Opensea and other art stealing mint sites.

Uh, that doesnt feel very good...
Can it be reported somewhere, anyone taking it up on discord where more of the tapas crew seems to be more active? Would really want to know where they stand in this whole NFT clownery :disappointed_relieved:

@rumpenstiltzkin yeah it being the weekend was why I made a forum post here, because I know if you have a tech issue they usually say that no one is really in the office until workdays. I feel like if it were brought up in the discord it would just get buried before someone who knows anything about it can say anything, but you can try it and see what happens anyway? Worst that happens is it gets buried.

But also I don't want to really post anything to twitter because it can uh...really explode over there. People have a knee jerk reaction when they see the words nft, and I don't want people to start deleting their comic over something tapjoy did.

Yeah, you'd probably be told to just go back to asking people what they're having for dinner so that staff doesn't get overwhelmed by too many messages about a serious issue bugging community (like it was the case with the inksgiving bonus ink thing...)

if Tapas thinks about jumping on NFTs. it would probably destroy their site cause the majority of the art community is against it. its be funny to watch tho

Yeah, but that would be "Not Fun for Tapas" then and they'd probably pull out. (Hopefully.)
