What kind of covers catch your attention? (Post your favorite covers!)

I know there's a huge variety, and a varies a lot based on genre (I.E. Romance covers are almost always two+ characters looking very pretty together/ Action covers tend to be a character in a very cool mid-battle pose) but I was just wondering if anyone had opinions on covers OR would like to share some of your favorites, webcomic or otherwise

From what I've seen, the number one thing to have in some form is faces! The human Eye is naturally drawn to faces so incorporating them into a cover can really help!

Yeah I feel like webcomic covers, like those on Tapas and Webtoon are just so, so different from book covers out of a bookstore. I love bookstore covers that have neat design on them (LOVE the annhiliation series ones and how they're so punchy)

Like these books are a good time, but I picked em up from the library because the cover is awesome. I feel like printed publishing just gets to have a wild time with graphic design.

As for Tapas and Webtoon covers...they're fine. A lot of them look similar because you kind of have to with how much space we have provided (when people see em, they're pretty small on the phone), I haven't really seen anything that was like "oh neat! so arty!" It generally is "here's my characters, you get the drift!"

Oh wow, I love those covers so much! I'm currently reading the third book and the covers I have are so plain and boring. Here they are in comparison:

So meh. I definitely prefer covers with something on them, but I think I lean more to abstract and minimalistic design. For example, I really like the Twilight covers, they're so simple and mysterious (I haven't actually read them so I have no opinion on the story itself).

Best Served Cold has this cover which has the style, sass, motion and just the right departure from photo realism that basically would be my dream covers

That's actually very eye-catching and beautifully done, not just because of the subject matter. I love the vibrant hot pink background that clashes with the more subdued green of the cabbage. And the composition is just so satisfying, the skeleton positioned in the corner, not in the center makes it more dynamic, but also the cabbage spreads out to take up almost all of the frame, save for 25-30% of the background. It just feels perfect! The skeleton nestled in the cabbage all relaxed is juxtaposed with the skeleton's usual association with death, a morbid and foreboding symbol, but in this book cover, it's almost comforting and completely amusing. In all honesty, it really is a wonderful book cover, no joking.

Annihilation is to die for. Don't see the movie, totally sucked, nothing like the book. But the book... holy h*** in a basket to hades. Supreme.

Tite Kubo's skills as a cover artist cannot be Overstated... The gravity of his covers needs no explnanation.

Yeah I heard it's a really beautiful movie--but it didn't capture the same horror aspect the book has. Like I haven't seen the movie yet and I don't know if I will, but I don't know how they'd ever really get the feeling across of a tower that goes up but also down and all of the other opposites that are so abstract in the book and are so based on wordplay. Like so much of it is trying to explain concepts and language that English doesn't have. I don't even know how they'd approach if they did the second book, since I feel like half the second book is trying to say "yo here's some words, they don't mean what you think they mean."
