What kind of extras do you like to see in comics?

What do you like to see as a reader? If you're a creator, what kind of extras do you like to share with your readers?

I'm preparing to print a copy of the first chapter of my comic for myself, and I'm going through additional materials I have to decide what to add as extras.

One of those is the map of the world my comic takes place in, because the characters traveling is a big part of the story. I also have a short text for one of the locations mentioned in the comic that I want to add to both the printed version and to the webcomic.

Sadly, I don't have much sketches for the first chapter because I was making it on the go (perks of a 9-5 ). I have a weapons design one, and some costumes that are too messy.

But I'm taking more time with chapter 2 so I will have nicer sketches and character designs for it.

I would like see authors thought process while making the comic or chapter. When was the idea conceived. What was the angle of approach when deciding to present the world to readers.

I think map and prop designs are cool!

Concept art is also cool

I also like chibi of the characters or some cute character interaction.

I also like bonus tidbits so long as it's short with a neat illustration to go with it.

As a reader, I actually like almost all extras because if I like the story enough to get to the extras, I just want to see more and more of it! I just don't like super long extras that interrupt the flow of the story. Or extras that are basically required reading if I want to understand the world (so not really an extra at all)

I really like music cues/ soundtracks creators make for scenes (good or badly made), give a link so I can go listen.

Lore, world-building, factions, histories, and legends about heroes, events, and ancients. I always like to see those in an author's comics as extras such as "The Concord Initiative" comic.

I agree with you. I don't like those kinds of extras either. I like when they're clearly marked and not required reading. I have some short stories in universe, but I plan to post them as single updates between chapters so readers can skip over them if they don't feel like reading it.

Yeah, sometimes I absolutely love any and all extras, and sometimes I find myself ... skipping them? Honestly it depends on the mood that I am in. xS But I do like them in general though. I love me some maps, and lore and mini chapters (like side character stories or small cute stories not pertaining to main plot etc) and music

Though, maybe it's just me but I don't really like music with words in it though if you're going to give a playlist? xS I feel like that would detract from the reading for me, if I have to listen to words while reading. - but if it's just playlists in general then words are good :3 (as in not to read and listen than that's good xD).

But the idea of posting your short stories as single updates between chapters is cute. xD

I like extras that don't feel like they're interrupting the story. I've found I enjoy authors showing off illustrations/doodles of their characters, cool lore related things, mini-stories, design stuff and behind the scenes!

However, if I'm constantly being interrupted with these extras in the middle of a scene it can put me off a little- which is why I try to be mindful of this when making my own extras

No, I dislike music that starts playing while I'm reading something too. It works for me in videos because someone made sure to match the pacing of it with the scene. I can't imagine someone taking a break from reading the comic, only to return to a serious scene and the playlist skipped to a happy song.

I think of the playlists similar to how some people have mood boards - a collection of songs that I enjoyed as a creator and then the reader can browse through them. Maybe find something they like.

I'm planning to put them at the back in print. And between chapters on Tapas. I think my story structure allows for it because each chapter has its own conclusion. I have a bigger freedom on my own website so I just keep them as separate stories.

I wouldn't like getting interrupted with something random either, especially at an important moment in the story. For me even when the creators post the ending panels of previous episode at the start of a new one is a bit too much when I'm reading the comic all at once. But I get why they do it for readers that follow the story on a weekly basis.

Love your map and weapons' concept art, they're so detailed! I love all kinds of extras tbh, but I get extra excited if the authors share their comic-making process, and their inspirations/how they came up with their world and characters.

As a creator, I'll probably lean more towards the lore-worldbuilding fun fact stuff, because I've got tons of creatures and locations I just want the readers to know, but not necessarily important to the story. Mostly because if I do end up making a another story, it'll take place in a different location in the same world.
