What size do you make comics at

ok so i asked this a while back, but im still not sure.

so i plan to publish but i really need to know what is the best size.

I want to do 8.5x11in but is that too big?

im not sure but if anyone knows please share.

I always do 9x12 inches at 600 dpi so I always have a high resolution version handy if I ever need it.

You can make you comics at any size you feel comfortable with. I work at 11" x 17"(digitally & traditionally)...I then reduce my finished art to 7" x 10" and letter before merging that & saving it as an actual comic page... if you're working traditionally make sure you scan your work at 300 dpi- if you work digitally make sure you're working at 300 dpi or higher.

Tapastic requires that the page at the most needs to be 940 pixels, or 2MB. As long as your comic page fits those requirements, then you're okay.

To emphasise @Shanny8's very keen advice if you plan on printing, always work proportionately larger than your intended print size. Having wiggle room will save you hours upon hours of migraine headaches when it comes to getting everything cut and trim for print. 8.5 x 11 is not too big, almost magazine sized. Standard western comic size is 6.6" x 10.25".

I also work at 11" x 17", scan at 600dpi, and shrink down for web and print. But I only recently started so I can confirm the headache and slow going in prepping tiny pages at about 100dpi (having to redraw and re-compose A LOT of stuff, it's foaming madness).

I have 3 sizes I work from.
1: A3 sized paper with a work area of 36x24cm. This is the one I use the most.
2: Roughly A3 sized paper (40x29,7cm) with 25mm margins towards the top and the spine, and 50mm margin towards the bottom and outer edge. This one is for full bleed pages.
3: A4 sized paper with a 2cm margin around the edge.

I always work twice as big as the intended print size. It makes everything look much sharper an cleaner.

I started out working on A4, since that was the size paper I always worked on, so it was nice and familiar to me. I've recently switched to B5 size paper though. Main reason being it is almost indistinguishable from A4 in proportions, and after being at a con where there was a lot of different size comics, I found that was the size I liked, considering holding it, and it's transportability. B5 is the size of the Avatar - The Last Airbender comics if you know those. It is a bit bigger and more elongated than takoban (mangas), which are roughly A5 in size. I hope that helped.

I also work with about 1 cm margins.

Also remember if you work digitally to work in minimum 300 dpi (Dots per Inch) of you want it printed!

It is usually in the image tab and is usually called "image size" or something similar.
