What time period should my comic be set in?

Weird question, but I was thinking about it before and not quite sure when it's set. It's in an alternate universe, with a portion of the world that's set in the 1600s-1700s pirate era, one that has a medieval fantasy vibe, but there's also a bunch of futuristic technology that I'm gonna introduce. So yeah, what time period should it be?

1600s-1700s era? So in a set where gun powder is a thing. What type of futuristic technologies will you introduce for example?

Stuff like flying cars, robots, and VR. I haven't really thought about it though, but I know I'll introduce it

I would recommend that you set it in the early 1800s and imply that some kind of fantastical event has occurred to make technology advance beyond the Industrial Revolution.

Then just like what @Aeneas1 said, better to set in the 1800s. It's where inventions like trains are build and only very few nations were able to reach that kind of technology.

Well Elsie takes place at the later half of the 1890s to the early 1900s it has science fiction elements to it as well but more like stuff out of science fiction from this time. I took inspiration from HG Wells, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde all the science fiction when science fiction was becoming a thing well kind of.

But of course there are steam powered jet packs, horseless carriages, airships, the flying thing Elsie has, super suits, we got people with superpowers created with serums. But with Elsie I didn’t go for the mainstream steampunk fashion I went for a historical approach for the costuming. Mainly because I like historical fashion better.

Honestly, if it's set within a fictional world/alternative universe I wouldn't stress the specific era/time period too much. You can pretty much do whatever you want, as long as it makes internal sense.

What I would do is settle on an aesthetic of a specifc era and design everything within that framing. All the rest, the type of tech or lack thereof is up to your imagination.
