What type of stories do you wish there were more of?

I wish there were more stories that are NOT focused on romance. C'mon, there are so many interesting things in the world! You can tell stories about adventure, exploration, cool sci-fi concepts, amazing complex fantasy worlds! Have a romantic line in your story if you wish but don't make everything about romance.

I honestly want to see more stories about regular families. Like, just a regular old family of parents and kids doing stuff. Tired of seeing families constantly arguing and dunking on each other. I feel there's a goldmine of stories for that type of thing beyond just "Generic family drama or show where one parent vanishes into the aether and the other one is a non entity to kick of kid's plot arc." type of thing. Last story like that i can genuinely think of that did that was either the Incredibles or No Ordinary Family if anyone even remembers No Ordinary Family.

I sort of want more stories with teenage protagonists who have an adult they can go to and talk to who will react in an appropriate way. I don’t like how stories with teens struggling with emotional or mental issues have to rely on themselves or another teenager to get through things.

I never understood why people are intimidated to even draw it. Meanwhile, they draw demon/fantasy comics like nobody's business. Like aliens are fantastical creatures in their own right.

I've heard that kinda stuff is reserved for Marvel/DC, but why does it HAVE to be? And I get it, it's annoying to see X-Men comics or academy superhero comics or celebrity superhero comics where their goal is to become famous (also I agree, interconnected comics are super annoying), but I have a feeling if people learned more about the weirdo stuff, then they'll be creating crazier stuff on Tapas. I'm talking Silver Surfer, New Gods, Omega Men, Green Lantern, Adam Strange, etc.

Also I'm getting sick of Hell comics or comics that bastardize Christianity in general. While I'll probably admire the art, if the writing is going to be like "What if God bad" or "What if the Devil was actually right" or sexualizes biblical figures (except Lucifer lol, him I understand) or cherry picking concepts from the Bible that the author doesn't even bother fleshing out, my brain immediately shuts off and I just scroll down. If you're going to do it, you better bring your A-Game. I'm talking Hellblazer quality.

I sort of have an idea for a scifi story that parallels the garden of eden and has Seth as the main character. It won’t have Lucifer because he’s not from the Bible, he was created for a fanfic based off a misinterpretation of a passage yet some how got appropriated into some people’s headcannon. And Satan is New Testament, so he won’t be there either.

ALso as an extension of that, can we also stop having stories where the antagonist is soem stuffy religious person who never smiles and wants everyone to be miserable? I know there are some bad apples out there like there are in any group, but to blanket statement all religious people like that is just... Old hat and really obnoxiously played out and makes it seem like the writer was just really upset at having to go to church as a kid instead of being able to stay home and watch cartoons on Sundays.

EXACTLY. You hit the nail on the gosh darn head. A tad bit off-topic, but It's why I loved Smiling Friends so much when it came out. Especially since Charlie, one of the main characters, is a bisexual christian lmao. Like I wanna see more of that side, because believe it or not, THEY EXIST. A christian publication released a book about lesbian nuns for example and it was sweet (they don't condemn having these feelings btw, they just embrace who they are). It goes into detail as to why they bother with Catholicism for example. Show the good apples that never get shown.

Yeah, exactly. I mean, you can write an interesting story about faith and religion, but you need to show both the good and bad sides of it instead of just building some strawman that only exists to be knocked down. Give me a more nuanced depection of that sort of subject matter, that's all I'm asking for!

(Which is amusing considering that I've had a comic I've been working on where the antagonist of the second arc is basically a sleazy Megachurch pastor I N S P A C E, though i'm intending it to be less of a knock against religion and mroe about the general dangers of people who appropriate things like religion to exploit and harm others and the dangers of blind faith and cult of personality type leadership if that makes sense.)

Although I want to dive more deep into it and prove a point that athiests who point fingers and call Christianity or the Church a cult are being hypocritical since a lot of them mindlessly worship corporations or Hollywood celebs. Also how corporations manipulate facts and sources just to sell their products like certain Health products or the recent scandal with Chris Hemsworth and other Disney male stars with how they've been taking steroids and exploit teenage boys who worship superheroes. It's straight up paganish. "PAY US MONEY TO LOOK LIKE YOUR FAVORITE HERO". Not to mention the controversies Hollywood/Faceless corporations get into which is woof

I also want to give people a solid reason as to why I stick with the Church and the religion instead of jumping off ship. Like how at the end of the day, the founder (Jesus) motivated people to drive these snakes out. And even if you go with another denomination, the truth will always follow like with revolutionists like John Brown (a calvanist) or Martin Luther King Jr. (a Baptist). Companies? Hollywood? They don't have commandments or laws. They're above the law.

More hard sci-fi that isn't only about physics, or even better, that treats biology and chemistry with the same care they do physics. If the focus of the series isn't on the hard science I obviously don't care, but when it's a serious hard sci-fi story where it looks like they may have even consulted an expert for the physics part, just winging the biology looks... bad

I'm going to be the hot take here and say the specifically catholic church's cover up of child sexual abuse is a huge systemic, not individual "bad apple" problem and any story deconstructing the environment within the church that breeds abuse-- in good faith-- should not be lumped in with "boo, you said religion bad." Also, the amount of people I know whose religious, supposedly tolerant parents then kicked them out for being queer, abused them physically or mentally and used their religion to justify it... that doesn't come out of nowhere. I'm not saying religion or religious people are automatically bad, as I work in a church and know some wonderful people. But, sometimes people are writing these stories from a real place and may just not have the skill level to get that across.

@Moesakuara And there are plenty on protestant or independent Christian religious groups that have shown to have less than favorable teachings, specifically in regard to how they treat children. But that doesn't account for all, of course.

But for stories I'd like to see, I guess I want to see more emotional conflicts as opposed to physical ot material conflicts. Not really in the case of romance but between friends, roommates, family members, or community members. I kinda want to see stories focused on people overcoming their differences by confronting their trauma. It'll be a great way to encourage people to discuss these topics and have open dialogue with one another. It's good representation.

Yes, very true. It's definitely hard to tackle, which is why I think it takes a pretty mature story teller to do it in an interesting way. Unless, of course, they are just trying to offend as many people from the over arching dominant social system as possible. Which sometimes has it's place, but then the reader's got to know what they're in for, lol.

I read a beautiful story recently that handled this incredibly well. It's old, but the comic "Flies on the Ceiling," by Gillbert Herndez, does an incredible job exploring religious guilt, triumphs and the pitfalls of coming from a religious family. So good and I feel like it isn't as talked about as more famous stuff with a similar theme like Persepolis.

More non romance would be nice, I would absolutely LOVE to see more stories about ace people being single or even gasp a lesbian being a single superstar lady not feeling like she has to get married to be happy

I’d also generally really love to see more stories that really invest time and energy into world building. More Intresting takes on mythos that arnt the basic bread and butter twilight vampires.

I would also like to see more media with older characters dealing with adventures rather then a bunch of 14 year olds…. Like I still enjoy the 14 year old adventures but variety is the spice of life!

I’ve also recently found out that we need more tiny daddies in the world

And to add to this. A lot of my issues with Christianity goes much deeper than not liking the "bad apples". I have had people try to act that if a church was LGBTQ friendly, then I would join them...I find people who act like this very annoying. I have some issues with the core theology of the Bible itself. I have also had issues with how mistranslated and misinterpreted it has become. The mistranslations are so inter woven into the core belief system that to address them, you would sound like a heretic. Plus the issue with things that are not canon to the Bible being treated like canon, that shit makes no sense IMO.
