What was your comic like before you published?

As in, were there any major differences you made before properly writing?
I'll go first.
My story was very different to how it is now. Pretty much the only thing that stuck were my characters Kura, Kumoto, Minnie, Mooey, Charlie and Juniper. Even still, they were quite different. Kura was a boy, Kumoto was very quiet and I don't think she even had a name till I started writing, and Charlie was actually meant to be a villain turned friend. In terms of the story, it was more straightforward, with fight scenes. The plot was something like, Kura and Kumoto had been building a ship for years, and then news dropped about a mystery creature that was only spotted once, so everyone went out searching for it. Quite similar to the plot of One Piece actually. But yeah. It's interesting to think how different my current story is from my original idea.

It was much shorter. Comicizing the script always ends up in adding more things. Especially during a fight scene

Wayyy different...

My characters were made 10 years ago, when I was 16. The main cast of my current comic was originally supposed to be the supporting cast. The original comic idea was a poorly written drama 🤦‍♀️

Fast forward to 2023, I decided to trash the original MC and turn the comic into a fun slice of life with the other characters.

I wrote short stories about it back in the 90s. The concept art came in college. 25 years after that, its changed alot in how the eb and flow goes. The more detailed story. More action. The character builds seem more alive. Etc.

Yhep Sickboy was drastically different,
I was going to draw it 2d and Mr. Patchez was the main character:

But then it became 3d (as the initial idea was a videogame idea). Owen took Mr. Patchez place, as it was a better fit to introduce intimidating and horror situations with a small kid

Owen is now a fan of Mr. Patchez (now a famous wrestler) and appears on many posters across the series.

When I came up with Haru and Tsukasa in 2019, it was drastically different than the final product more than five years later. The comic went through different stages throughout the years.

Tsukasa was initially called Hinata before witching quickly to Kenji and was a lot more stereotypically Japanese than he is now. After less than five episodes, I wisely got rid of this controversial aspect. He was also a lot more boyish than he was now. When he was heading in the direction of the wholesome crossdresser, I decided to rename him Hinata again before giving him his unisex name.

Haru also appeared in the original comics, but she was a white girl named Sophia, and served as Tsukasa's love interest. Of course, that would never fly today because Haru and Tsukasa are both best friends, not to mention the fact that Tsukasa's asexual. Sophia was changed to Hitomi, Tsukasa's friend who lived in Japan. Hitomi was later renamed to Haruka, Tsukasa's wholly Japanese-American friend, eventually becoming Haru, Tsukasa's half-Japanese half-Tamil best friend.

Also, the two were twelve-year-old middle schoolers who aged-up quite a bit to eighteen-year-old high schoolers before releasing the comic.

My comic Crow's Worth is sort of based on something I wrote as a teenager (15-ish), I'm now in my mid 30s. The overall plot is the same however, I had to remove a lot of stupid stuff that my teenage self thought was funny but didn't make a coherent plot. I also fleshed out the characters more, especially Tabutu and Dai.
The dumbest thing I had to remove...a giant magical pencil that brought things to life.

For Frostpeak West, it was more that I had a bunch of old characters and a vague concept (also from my teen years) but not really a concrete plot yet. So, most of the changes were just shifting characters around. Mr. Blueberry was the History teacher and Zeta was Math. Zap was the school's secretary and Ace was the school counselor. Shine was originally Zanna's brother and Ken sort of saw her as a step-sister. Mr. Blueberry was originally Claus's foster parent, he also had another son named Jet. Jet appears in one of my older comics which is not canon.

There is also super early concept art of Mr. Blueberry in bandages but this was abandoned very early on for obvious reasons but I still think the design looks funny. I did reference it in my series.
