What would your comic or novels soundtrack be?

If your story would have a soundtrack with no limits or royalties to pay, what kind of music would you do for it?

I’ll go first!

For Cracking Eggs, I think the music would be funky jazz music and rnb soul music or something for the quieter moments. For popular music 100% I would put several Beatles songs and music from the mid 2010s in there.

For Elsie I’d have music by classical composers like Chopin, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, especially Brahms, Debussy and the king of waltz Strauss! I’m a big classical music nerd. But since it’s a superhero story, I would have to find pieces by these guys that could fit battle scenes and I have. Hungarian Dances by Brahms anyone?

Also along with the classical music, I’d like popular songs from the 1890s playing as well. Like parlor music or ragtime and such.

The best part about classical music is that it’s in the public domain so hahaha! YAAAAHHH!

But if I wanted original music for the story I’d want it to sound like Pride and Prejudice with an Avengers flair!

Made a playlist for my comic a while back, some of the songs are specifically for a character, but most of them have a similar sort of tone? Can't tell you the main genre since I don't really know myself (Soft rock maybe?), always had trouble categorizing music that isn't super cookie cutter.

My pick is the whole play list of Susumu Hirasawa. You might recognize him from some of his songs in anime like Paprika, Millenium Woman, Paranoia Agent, and Berserk. All his songs immediately transmit a lot of feelings of sadness, happiness, and the sense of a big adventure that you might not return to.

I think regardless of limits, I'd want an original soundtrack for my stories; I want people to hear a song and for the first thought to be 'oh that's the song that plays during the [spoiler] scene in bitwam!' and such A huge part of my enjoyment of some of my favourite (games, usually) is looking up the OST; if the songs were already existing and better known from elsewhere, I just don't think it'll be the same, even if the songs are very good and fitting

I have thought some existing songs would make pretty good 'anime EDs' for my stories though - specifically, for the second arc of bitwam I've been considering either 'True Colours' or ... 'I Deserve to Bleed' (pretty different songs ik XD)

In terms of general vibes though, I imagine bitwam's OST to be kind of like Katawa Shoujo's, and the OST for ATWWS to be like Morrowind's with a sprinkling of Made in Abyss

But honestly if I were to use a soundtrack, it would be with BBC Production Music which is free. And since both my stories take place in Britain, it works well!

A combo of Hiroyuki Sawano's Gundam Unicorn Soundtrack, MONACA's work for Garo Carved Seal of Flames, Yuki Kaji's work for .Hack//SIGN and a hint of Guilty Gear Strive. (In fact one of the big arcs in my story has all chapters names refering to Guilty Gear Strive song names, like for example Chapter 32: The Roar of the Spark)

I love this topic, how other creators use music and match songs to their works is so fun and illuminating.

Recently I have been pairing my protagonist John with The Cranberries 'Dreams' as I think the ambiance suits him well. It is completely wrong era, but I imagine my other main character, Jack listening to grime and tracks like 'Jus' a Rascal'.

Overall 'Safe and Sound' makes me think of them together looking after each other.
