Hey guys, been a while
Tried looking up if there is a topic on this already, but found nothing?

sooo... what's going on with Patreon?
It looks like they've lost a huge lawsuit, and they may or may not go bankrupt because of it.
I didn't find any official statement from their end as of yet. And unfortunately, the YT channels i found that talk about it are on the biased-drama-kind-of-channels end of it. Hard to find actual facts instead of the doomsday scenarios.

I think it helps to prepare for the worst case scenario. I know there are plenty alternatives if the worst came to be, but for me, Patreon is the only viable option to use (that i know of) as it allows linking Payoneer and not only PayPal. There are plenty of creators in my situation too. If it were to go down then.... bleh, idk  no bueno lol

If you guys have any insight, or alternatives to suggest (that support Payoneer) then please, help a sister out hahaha

otherwise, that's a headsup~

Idk if Kofi supports payoneer, but maybe look into that?

Some right wing assholes can't use the platform any more because they were shitty so they try to sue it into the ground so nobody else can use it... :sweat_01:

Honestly if only the right wing asshole channels are talking about it to big up how powerful they are and how they're going to bring down a corporation to own the libs, and nothing is being said on any actual business sites, I'd not worry too much. The lawsuits sound big, but it's probably a drop in the ocean for a corporation of that size.

From what I can tell (being honest I can't stomach the centrist/right wing media outlets covering it so I haven't gone too deep down the rabbit hole lol)--patreon booted some right wing users, then changed their TOS, and got in trouble for it. Now everyone who got booted AND their patrons have a claim against Patreon. And since these guys love a witch hunt, there's a lot of doom and gloom coming from their end.

Right here. While it certainly isn't a good thing for Patreon, as they aren't super profitable to begin with, I doubt it will kill the platform outright. Also, legal stuff is a long and drawn out process even in non-coronatimes.

It is another harsh reminder that no platform is forever and you should definitely diversify your income stream. It's too bad there isn't a readily available 1:1 patreon alternative, though. Maybe this will inspire some of the platforms I've seen floating around like Comraderie to get their platforms running.

Yikes! I wasn't aware of this. Not that I earn so much with Patreon, but it was nice to have some extra income from that... I hope they will survive.

And the more recent time it decided that things like BL and Yuri were NSFW and CP by definition and therefore banned. Or that really recent time they decided they had the right to police sites outside of Patreon and if you've posted something they dislike anywhere, ever, you can be banned.

Not surprised. Patreon has been a shit head to a lot of creators in the past, they treat nsfw creators like trash even after they’ve appeal to all the guidelines. Then they ban people for who they vote for which is pretty fucked up. They’re not a very good company, not many companies are good to be honest, but they’ve been dishonest, shady and vial to creators they don’t agree with for quite some time now.

Not remotely surprise someone decided to call them out for it. Just surprised it took so long

Banning NSFW art of children is a reasonable and neccesary measure, but banning a specific art style will not solve the problem and will take away some of the legitimate artists and creators .

Is naive to think that creeps only draw in one specific art style.

If anyone wants to check out Comradery, here's their website

I don't know much about it and they're quite new but it can be something worth following.
