Hey, great topic! Howdy Tapastic community! My style is American comic book influenced with nods to artists like Art Adams, Jim Lee, Mike Mignola, Jae Lee, Adam Hughes and other guys/gals that do highly detailed stuff. I'm also heavily influenced by the classical artists like Albrect Durer, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci etc... Again, artists that do very detailed realism. My backgrounds have a manga influence in that I employ a lot Japanese "masking" in which the characters are inked in a strongly black and white style and the backgrounds utilize a lot more grey. This helps my characters "pop" off the backgrounds nicely if i nail it. In truth I was not influenced so much by actual manga in this technique but in a secondary way through the art of guys like Dave Sim and Gerhard, Martin Wagner and others who use it well. In the end I'd like for my art to stand on its own stylistically and for those who see it to not instantly recall my influences. For this reason I try very hard not to do comics"The Marvel Way" or DC way or in a strongly manga style etc... There are of course a lot of drawbacks to that because the overwhelming majority of readers are deeply indoctrinated into the standard story-telling "language" established by those companies and regional styles. Figuring out how to do it "my way" is a matter of never ending trial-and-error!
