When You Chat With Forum People, Do You Think They Look Like Their Avatars?

I do kind of picture everyone like their avatars as odd as it sounds. Mine is...somewgat accurate. I have bangs and long hair, but the color is different lol

Hm... maybe sometimes subconsciously I do. If your avatar is a face photo I really do, but even then you could be using a glorious stranger's face. To be honest, I have two theories about how you all really look:

1. No one here even has a physical body. You're all bots who've achieved sentience, or

2. You're all bags of rats that have acquired smartphones through dubious means.

In my case I'll just fess up to being the bag of rats, but we're delighted if you associate us with a cute green dudeboy instead.

While I don't think people look like their avatars, I certainly assign the avatars to their identities and imagine everything typed spoken in the avatar's voice.

As @joannekwan said, I see it as an extension of the person, but not their literal self.

My avatar is misleading, as it's one of the MC from my comic. I am actually a sentient flower, vis-a-vis my username.

Not really, I just imagine everyone as a girl for no reason. Though this is an over-simplification of things, since if I'm playing games it depends on the game. Smite? Everyone is 12 yo boy and russian. Town of Salem? Everyone is 10 yo boys and from the USA. Guild Wars 2? Everyone's a girl, unless they have a human female character with cultural tier 2 armor (infamous underboob armor) that is dyed all black. 100% a guy everytime.

Details aside, even if the avatar is a photo I never assume that's the actual poster's body. I know next to no one who actually likes the way they look so I assume what I see is some form of idealization or a favourite character. As SleepingPoppy put it, an "extension of self."
