Seconding what @darthmongoose said, searching for the title you're planning to use before actually using it is definitely a good strategy! My original plan for the comic was to call it "The Midnight Coven"(not much reasoning behind it, I just thought it sounded cool XD) but after a quick Google search I realized that there were actually multiple works called like that (a website, a book, a music album... the list goes on
) so I ended up changing it.
THAT SAID, it's definitely true that it takes a while for your comic to appear on top of Google searches and that results will vary depending on updates and how frequently you use certain platforms or hastags! When I just got started, searching for my comic title would mostly bring up a book called "Heidi Hecklebeck and the Hair Emergency!" by a certain Wanda Coven
After a few months, my comic on CF started to appear as the second/third result. Right now, after one year and a half, the first page of Google contains solely results related to my comic, with my website being among the top 3 results (wheeee!). I also noticed that my Twitter page, where I'm being more active now, is appearing much higher in search results compared to a few months ago. So yep, promotion and constant updates help a lot!
