Which is better? short updates or long updates?

i have a question for any comic creators out there.

im pretty new to comic making so i've just been posting 1 or 2 pages twice a week, but i wonder if my readers here on tapas like short updates twice a week or would they prefer long updates once a week? anyone whos tried this fairly recently or reads a lot on tapas please let me know!

My comic releases all the pages of an episode at once (18 - 25 pages of story), and in a single episode, and I have had some people say it can be a bit of an "exhausting" read. However, as the writer it works out better from a storytelling perspective, because it gives me a chance to go back and fix any problems before release making for a much cleaner episode by the time it comes out. Which being a comic with an overall continuous story, is very important.

There are definately some ups and downs, but as far as I can tell, releasing in bulk hasn't really caused any major issues for me, and it's handy to have everything organized into one single episode.

I don't have that problem. I just schedule my episodes out and I look for flaws. I then report to my artist and have him change the small flaw before the episode releases.

Same. I bassicly finish the episode, schedule it, look for flaws, and correct them before release.

Readers would probably prefer longer updates, but from your point of view more frequent updates could be more profitable, getting more views and more possible ad revenue. 2-3 panels per update seems too short though

hmm mybe i could meet in the middle and do 3-4 paes twice a week instead of 1-2 since that might be too short?

If it puts you behind a schedule, it's not a way out but generally it could be better to discuss this stuff with your readers. Just don't get overworked.

I did a very informal survey of this on the Webtoon discord a while back, and people leaned toward reading longer updates once a week. But it depends on your comic too. Like, people upload comedy strips on a daily basis. And more uploads might means more views/ revenue.

Reading your comic. I prefer a longer episode. The 1-2 episode is a good length, the 3rd episode felt too short, and the latest episode is ok because there's sort of a punchline to it.

I do bi weekly with one page an update. Call me insane but it is the only way I get fully drawn, inked, lettered and colored pages out with two jobs irl, lol.

hey man, all that really matters is consistency lol i can barely get two pages done weekly and i dont even have a job lol

I post one page a week. It's the pace I can keep up for a long period of time (technically I could draw faster, but then I know I''ll get burnout... )

I reason that people who want to read longer updates don't need to pop in weekly, they can just binge as many updates as they want when there's enough unread pages. That's pretty much how I read the comics I'm subscribed to as well lol.
