It's not immediately noticeable in my comic cuz I'm still practicing detail conservation and backgrounds, but I used a bit of brazilian/portuguese inspirations to make Aeolia less of the usual, western european medieval era stuff. Things like food and terms aren't going to show up until later, but I went out of my way to make buildings with high ceilings and brightly painted decorations, just like colonial era houses you see in tourist towns around here. Also partially inspired by a visit to Paraty and an older visit to Ouro Preto, coincidentally both times while I was doing work on this story.
(this is another city/state but couldn't find any good relevant photos)
I still give myself some artistic license with things that can be supplanted by magic (colonial houses usually are single floor, earth magic means Aeolia can have more or bigger houses for dragons), but since it's still medieval in parts, it was a nice way to give the cities their own look.
