Personally I like the simpler design with the pink background. The details in the other design may get lost since the cover/thumbnails can be pretty small on screen

I like the first one as a cover better. Simpler and not so much going on.

I wouldn't mind the second design for the thumbnail though, cause it'd be a waste not to use the art, in my opinion. Or maybe you could design the banner featuring the other characters? Just a thought.
