Hey guys!

As an artist I’m always looking and getting inspired by other artists. I’ve been working and reading for a long time to cultivate my art style. Who/what other artists, manga or comics influences your art style?

I’ll go first:

Tite Kubo (Bleach) - manga/anime influence
HamletMachine (artist) - coloring & lineart
JC Leyendecker (artist) - painting & composition
Quentin Tarantino (director) - storytelling & graphic design

And many others! Who are some of your top influences?

And here’s my comic for comparison (feel free to share yours as well!)

Oooh this is fun i love to hear people's inspirations!!

My biggest ones are probably

Hugo Pratt (Artist and writer of Corto Maltese)
André Franquin (artist and writer of Spirou & Fantasio)
Yoan (artist of Spirou & Fantasio)
Hiromu Arakawa (artist and writer of Fullmetal Alchemist)

Here's my comic, but if you wanna see my illustrations and non-comic art I'm also on twitter :>

So so so so many.

Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes)
Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo)
Mike Mignola (Hellboy)
Eiichiro Oda (One Piece)
Burne Hogarth (Dynamic Anatomy, Tarzan)
Jack Kirby (Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, hundreds of other comics)
Jeff Smith (Bone)
Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Primal, many others)
Bruce Timm (Batman the Animated Series)
Bob Clampett (Looney Tunes)
Friz Freleng (LT)
Chuck Jones (LT)
Akira Toriyama (Dragonball)
Hergé (The Adventures of Tintin)
Patrick Spaziante (Archie comics Sonic)
Arthur Adams (most noteably his Godzilla art)
Mark Bagley (in particular his art for Ultimate Spider-man)
Mike Deodato (in particular his art for Incredible Hulk in the early 2000s)
Dave Quiggle (does a lot of album art for Hardcore and Metalcore bands)

And I'm probably forgetting some. I don't believe in only having a couple influences from one style. Gotta be a student from across the gamut of comics, art, and cartoons.

Honestly most of my influences are from childhood cartoons. Like how to Train your dragon, Steven universe, gravity falls etc. I dropped the bendy arms and legs in favour of more anatomically accurate arms and legs a few years back tho and my noses have become a little bit more detailed too. I suspect all the JoJo's bizarre adventure fanart I'm making right now will have a big influence on my shading and how I draw certain body parts soon.
As for my posca pen art... It's an array of Instagram artists.

Nice a fellow bleach fan
I also got influenced by Tite Kubo, especially when it comes to the big swings that take up half a panel, I love them XD
other than that, other big influences for me are The boondocks and ATLA

Oh yes! ATLA is also and inspo of mine as well. How could I forget!

Oh, how hard its to name them! Mostly because even when I am inspired by some great artist, my skills are way below them, and I feel ashamed of embarrass their legacy by been in my list xD
Anyway, here is a bit of a list of my greatest ever inspirations:

-Alex Ross (Kingdom Come)
-Neil Gaiman (The Sandman)
-George Perez (Crisis on Infinite Earths; Wonder Woman vol.2)
-Jeph Loeb (Long Halloween)
-Yoshitaka Amano (FF series)
-Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor Moon)
-Hajime Kanzaka (Slayers)

I’ve been inspired by many:

Brian Froud and Wendy Midener (The Dark Crystal)
Michael Turner (Fathom, Witchblade, The Darkness, etc.)
G.G. Santiago (Rainbow Brite)
Samuel J. Butcher (Precious Moments)
William Thomas Kikade III (Homey paintings and lighting)
Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor Moon)

My personal style1 could very well be a fusion, but probably of the most amateurish parts!

Tomer Hanuka (artist): for colors, linework, ways of drawing people
Est Em (mangaka): for linework, ways of drawing people, storytelling
Natsume Ono (mangaka): for ways of drawing, storytelling
JC Leyendecker (artist): for ways of drawing
Cartoon Saloon (studio): for colors, ways of drawing

My tumblr1 for a broader look at my art.
And all my series here on Tap.

There are many people who influenced my artstyle.

ONE (creator and artist of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100)
Yusuke Murata (artist of One Punch Man's manga)
Akira Toriyama (creator and artist of Dragon Ball)
Kentaro Miura (creator and artist of Berserk)
Takeshi Koike (director of Redline)

There are more I didn't list here.

since Im such an old hag....

Real old school for my childhood:
Yumiko Igarashi (Candy Candy)
Osamu Dezaki (Remi)
Leiji Matsumoto (Queen Millenia)
(the 3 of them on the art style and narrative)
Masami Anno (Bismark)
Takeshi Shudo (Minky Momo)

From 90's-2000's:
Hideaki Anno (Evangelion)
Kaori Yuki (Earl Cain)
Yoko Matsushita (Yami no Matsuei)
Matsuri Akino (Petshop of Horrors)
Julie Dijon (artist)

These are the most important that influenced me

Alessandro Barbucci (W.i.t.c.h., Sky Doll, Ekho)
Barbara Canepa (W.i.t.c.h., END)
James O' Barr (The Crow)
Paolo Barbieri (fantasy illustrator)
Wendibones
Makoccino
Dana Rune (The Arcana)
Paul Azaceta (Outcast)
Alan Lee & Brian Froud (illustrator)
Victoria Francés (illustrator)
Luis Royo (illustrator)
Dave McKean (illustrator/comic book artist)

...Pretty sure Tim Burton is to blame, too :'D

Also: The Sandman, Dylan Dog.

John Byrne/Chris Claremont- storytelling

John Byrne(Next Men)- storytelling, panel/page design, backgrounds
Marc Silvestri(Uncanny X-Men)- dynamic art
Jim Lee(X-Men)- dynamic art
George Perez(Teen Titans, Wonder Woman)- art; making the most of a panel with backgrounds
Joe Madureira(Battle Chasers)- powerful art & lines
Ed McGuinness(Superman)- powerful art & lines
J Scott Campbell(Danger Girl)- finding a balance, backgrounds
Pepe Larraz(House of X)- flawless art
Stuart Immonen(All New Captain America)- perfect composition, flawless art
Mahmud Asrar(X-Men)
Chris Bachalo(Steampunk)- page design/layouts, bold art, gritty art

For character design and how I draw people overall, vehicles(mainly bikes and the cars that look like they are built out of spare parts), and nature/scenery backgrounds you can clearly see who influenced me and inspired me the most when it comes to drawing, that person being Akira Toriyama. When it comes to drawing animals and weapons I honestly couldn't tell you for the life of me.
