Florence was about to swing at Barrett again, aiming for his temple.
But she never got the chance to.
Williams’ sword sliced through her arm, cutting it clean off before she could make contact with the siren. She hissed, struggling to face Williams as the vines’ grip on her tightened. Well… “It” hissed, was more like it. Whatever was attacking them, it wasn’t the nurse from back in London.
Florence was gone. She had been from the moment she’d shut off in the Reborn factory.
Perhaps Melvin had finally come to terms with that. It would explain how he was able to bring himself to swing a long, sharp tool he’d found at the creature impersonating his sister’s head, first denting her cranium, and then piercing it with the sharp end.
He drove the tool through the monster’s metal skull, right in the spot Florence had been shot in; and right where the memory disc was.
“Florence” stiffened, its darkened eyes bulging as its head was impaled. The creature didn’t move for a long moment, standing completely still as it worked out what had happened to it.
But after a few agonizingly long seconds, the undead robot collapsed, dead for good this time.
Melvin stood behind his sister’s body, trembling as his eyes flicked back to blue from red.
