Florence’s body remained still. Even so, Melvin still watched her hopefully, not daring to say a word as he waited.
As the seconds went by, slowly, Florence started to move. Her fingers twitched, then flexed, followed by her head rolling to the side. She pressed her palms against the ground, rising to her knees, and then her feet: all without making a sound.
Melvin beeped as she stood up, taking a step towards her. "Florence...?"
Florence didn't turn around, not at first.
Melvin placed a hand on her shoulder, beeping softly again. "Florence? How do you feel?"
Her movements were a blur. One moment she was stock still. The next, she was gripping Melvin's wrist like a vice and flinging him to the ground with strength that seemed unusual even for a machine. She finally turned around...
Her eyes weren't glowing blue, like they should have been. They weren't red, either. The lights were extinguished, leaving her eyes as dark chasms bored into her face.
Whatever Owl had brought back, it wasn't Florence.
