Hiya!

So, I'll get straight to the point: I have a relatively young SciFi comic called Petrichor (you can check it out here: Petrichor26) I'm proud of it even though it's still short, I've only been posting since the end of August and I'm really glad to have the amount of readers that I do, I'm not complaining about that.

However, there's been a strange phenomenon that's happened a couple of times now that I can't explain: I'll go weeks and weeks and weeks with maybe a couple of new subs to the comic, and then in the last week of February to the 3rd of March the comic gained around 65 new subs before now going back to the usual rythm. The comic gained 16 subs in one day. To a comic that has thousands of subs in total that's kind of expected, but before this recent jump my comic had just over 100 subs. Because it was so sudden, extreme and stopped just as abruptly as it started I feel like there must be an explanation that I've missed.

I'm asking because a similar but less extreme thing happened in september and in october where within a couple of days the comic's subcount jumped from barely any to 40, then 40 to 90, has anyone else experienced this? Or do you have a possible explanation for why this could have happened? I'm not going to lie it would be nice to know to see if I could try and make it happen again because I love seeing people react to my story and characters.

Thanks for any answers you have!
xx Tokki

Most definitely sounds like you were promoted on the app
Next time if you see those bursts, check out all the places that you always see other comics/novels being promoted.

Yeah, suddenly getting 65 subs in a day usually means you were featured on the app or site, either on the front page, or in the community tab.

Thank you for your answer! I wondered if that was it so I checked out the trending, fresh and popular tabs for the SciFi category and it wasn't there (which isn't surprising, it's a small comic). Unless those tabs are based on user preference and are different for everyone maybe? Or there could be somewhere else I guess.

Nah, they are the same for everyone, you probably just checked too late  the promo is usually 3 days, so if you check after that, there's no way to find out if it was actually there. But yeah, definitely should be a promo.

I guess I'm kind of doubtful of that because I assumed only larger more established comics could be featured like it is on other sites but then again I'm new and still don't know the mecanics that well. The most I got in 1 day was 16 just to be clear, the ~65 people was over the 5-ish day span of the most recent jump. Thank you for your reply, I'll be sure to check the app and community tab if it ever happens again!

Features can happen to any decently polished looking comic or novel that the staff think the Tapas audience might like! Your comic looks like it has solid art so... I wouldn't be surprised if it at least got a community feature! Once you catch the Staff's eye, it's not that uncommon to get featured repeatedly to fill out collections of works on similiar themes, or in the same genre.
