What is the meaning of life?

Wait, that’s a different topic2

But, seriously, what are your current motivations for posting your novel or comic on Tapas?

  • I just post for fun!
  • I needed an outlet for my creativity.
  • I’d like to build a following.
  • My long-term goal is to be traditionally published.
  • I view being an author/artist as a part-time job or side gig, but I like my day job.
  • I want to be a full-time author or comic artist.

The first two are true for me  I like that I can do this for fun and, at least for the moment, have no desire to try to do this full time or getting published. So I’m curious - what are you here for?

I don't expect it to happen, but yeah, who wouldn't want their hobby to be their full time job? XD

So originally I started posting for fun here, but then I found out how amazing the Tapas community is and how great the readers are so my goals have kind of shifted. My goal now is to build a following and be a full-time author. I don't have much hope for being a full-time author, so I'm going to stick with school and work  but it's something I'm going to shoot for!

I'd like to add that I also am here for feedback/making relationships with other comic artists. My friends IRL are not into comics so it's hard to talk shop with them about this sort of thing. It's nice to see what others are creating and what their process is too.

@kinleypavone ooh! That’s a good point! Yes! Getting feedback and pointers is so awesome and just community in general is a definite draw for me, too!

One of my goals is definitely building a solid readerbase while cross-promoting with my other accounts. Tapas has been amazing for that thus far! I've built a small readerbase and not only that... but made actual friends along the way too! :heartbeat: I technically have a website for my series, but posting on Tapas gives it a more social experience. I've also met other peers (fellow sci-fi writers).

As for the forums, I love the old-school feeling of being able to chat with other creators on a board like I did as a kid. And I can do it without toxic social medias like FaceBook.

Part of it is to set a goal out for myself, and sometimes it acts as a distraction for when something bad happened that day (which if you are me, happens a lot)

The community here is lovely and I started posting on tapas mainly to build my confidence as a writer and force myself to improve. I probably won’t be making novels as a full time job but it will be a great alternative creative outlet for me.

I’m also looking forward to getting to know more people on the forums!

@MeltingCORE it’s really nice to see so many people have such a positive experience posting on Tapas  the forums are so much better than FB (especially with the current political climate in the US )

@DualDragons having a goal has been really helpful for me, too!

Seriously. Same.

@Shaz the confidence boost from simply sharing your story is such a big deal! And any likes or comments just make it better! I love the community through all of Tapas, but the forums have been amazing!

This might sound boomer-ish, but what exactly does "build a following" mean?

@M.ComicFan - it essentially means finding readers for your story (in this instance). It’s an audience, but it’s ideal for them to be more interactive than passive

I found Tapas through a writer friend of mine on Wattpad. I made this user a year back or so, and first now started actively posting on the site. Is much friendlier, open-minded, and mature compared to what I've experienced on Wattpad.

My aim right now is to gain a following and audience on Tapas and Inkitt (another writer site). Just in case Wattpad goes down.

@Leverance the sinking ship that is Wattpad :weary: yeah, Tapas definitely had a huge surge of users when everything blew up last month!

I’ve barely been on Wattpad to read, even, but this does seem to be the overwhelming consensus  it makes for a really welcoming space

Chose five of these. We've always wanted to start some big webcomic empire and hire writers/artists to tag along and get paid regularly for their work.

@kmlangleyauthor Wattpad has been sinking for years, lol. Is first now people are beginning to take notice. Luckily, during the COVID lockdown last summer, I already began moving my work over here.

Wattpad can be filled with a lot of crap, unfortunately. Tapas is light and day compared to that.

@scribesunlimited that’s awesome goals!! :heart_01:

Sounds like a very gentle version of a hostile takeover LOL :joy:

@Leverance it usually takes a while for a site like that to burn out, even after the warning signs. I’m glad this seems to be a better fit for you

I want to be a full time author\artist. But I also picked "Other."
"Other" for me is that Tapas is my training ground. I know the road to my success is long and brutal. So I'm here mostly to learn and fail, which will in turn propel me to growth.
Giving myself about seven years give or take to get my crap together before I try and pull the trigger on becoming a full time artist.

Hmm. I never thought about it that way, but no. I'm talking something on the grounds of Dark Horse or Image, or other smaller-press comic companies - only online.
