I feel that subs and reaching them is tough for so many reasons that transcend art.
This may apply more to writing than to comics, but it might also be the case with comics. People publish more to be read than they come here to read the works of others. They also might be giving subs to some works to get subs in return. There seems to be some mercantile exchange of support. Having a sub may not mean that your work shall be read or that there shall be some engagement.
Then, there is the genre. I have noticed that LGBTQ+ and BL as genres do get most of the attention on Tapas. They are the ones that get most reader engagement and thus are promoted on the homepage and thus will get more views and subs.
The honest truth of what I have observed on many different webcomic platforms is that Tapas is for LGBTQ+ art, LineWebtoons is for romance (generally, if not always, heterosexual), MangaToons is for Chinese-style webcomics (simple, easily plots, black-and-white characters, manga-inspired art).
As for writing … well, authors are self-centered beasts (I am more of a writer, I should know), so all the platforms, be it Inkitt, Wattpad, etc. are for authors to get reads, reads, reads and to be worshipped. Worship they do not get and stop writing and accuse the world of not understanding them. (Nah, I am just projecting here, writers are ok people, not this bad)
