Can I be honest? I mostly saw the movies for Finn. I dunno, I personally was disappointed because they build up his character like he was gonna be a Jedi.
The dramatic face reveal when he took off his stormtrooper mask. Him having doubts aout what he was doing.
I thought they were gonna set it up as "the good in your heart makes you a Jedi" or something similarly sappy. Something with redemption? Would've worked for me, bruh.
But what can you do. I criticized that part but still liked the movie.
Though, unpopular opinion or not, I don't care for people using "Mary Sues/Marty Sues" as feedback: sounds like a shortcut, shallow criticism. Instead of leading with that, people need to get better at explaining why a character is underdeveloped or overdeveloped or the interactions are bland, etc.
Cuz again, in this thread, people were mentioning "what about Batman or Superman? What about Luke??" Those terms just make it harder to make feedback reasonable, as I've seen. Once you use it, whether your got good critism or not, people will ask "then why does such and such get a pass?"
Just a thought.
